This is a mixed breed I did a lion clip on. I used a 3 on the body and trimmed the leg feathers and neck mane to blend in. She had the softest hair. Please critique my groom.

A lion clip style

I did trim the feathers with curved shears but in the picture they look kinda unkempt. I need to work on that. The owner had never had her cut before, she liked the clip a lot. She knew she didn't want her too short which is why I left feathers longer. Her before was just long and shaggy. They adopted her and they were sure she had never been groomed. She looked like a pom- chow kinda style before. Thanks for your help.

looks like a lion clip to me...
So nice to see a Lion Clip that doesn't resemble Bozo the Clown. The shop I work at does a Lion clip that looks like an E-Collar.... like Queen Victoria... a Sunflower.... it's truly the most ridiculous haircut I've ever seen on a dog. And the other groomer thinks MY Lion Clip looks stupid! I really must try and snap a picture of this.. words just can't describe it! Since I refuse to do them her way, and she books all the appointments, she just makes sure I rarely get any. Which is fine with me. I refuse to butcher a dog just because that's how it's been done there for years. Bravo for clipping one that looks normal!

Great Job!
great job. I agree, the way some groomers do lion clips is strange. i think they should be blended more, like poodlefluff's. Great job poodlefluff, i would let you groom my dog any time (although i would have taken the front, butt, and feathering down a little with thinning shears) but great job on making the loin trim look decent!

personally i think the lion cuts MANE part of the clip...should start at the shoulders on cats and dogs. why do people insist on clipping it around the neck area? if its a LION CUT why not make the dog/cat LOOK like an actual lions mane? i think if it started more towards the shoulders and left the mane in the front going down the chest...it might look a little more decent than haveing the cats neck shaved past the shoulders...makes it look redicoulous to me at least! i too like the clip! very cute dog btw too!
although to me at least i cant see where the shaved part is (it all blends together because of the coloring IMO). id like to see a lion clip thats done like on a porti....sort of a bare butt/back area with the front like a mane kinda thing.

Loin Cut 101...lol
Theory of 5 gives you 2 ways to do the lion trim. They both start behind the withers. Adult LION shaves nothing in front of the first rib. Young LION follows the wither around the shoulder muscle and down the front of the neck to a point. Front legs get shaved on a young lion...I'll be doing a Pom soon...I hope she wants a lion...I'll post for review if I get to do it...
BTW Your groom looks great...I would have taken the back shorter too but whatever owner wants...owner gets

What a cute dog! Looks nice to me, I too would have done the feathers shorter, to match up with body, but we don't ever shave them.
I guess people want sunflower head lion cuts because to some people, less hair=better!
I tried to do the full lion mane on my mom's cat, and her natural ruff of her mane was actually above her withers...
We did two poms yesterday, lion cuts, and their lion cut starts at the base of their collar, where it begins to mat... but their manes are less completely long, so it covers the high set pattern.
Also, if the cat doesn't have enough hair, a full blown lion cut doesn't really look that good... Sometimes you have to go with the natural ruff of the coat.
I've never done a full lion cut before.
