  • Coloring question that may be a little weird

OK, I've done very little with color. Dyed a mohawk or two, used blo pens etc. Well I was watching Sesame Street (ONLY beause my son was I swear LOL) and Grover was doing something about children in another country making tie-dye T-shirts. So this strange mind of mine started churning. Would it be possible to tie-die a dog by banding the coat in different ways? It would have to have a decent amount of coat I would think, perhaps a drop coat would work better??? So wondering if anyone has tried this or thinks it might work?

The few times I've done a tie dye effect, I've just used my hand with different colors and randomly placed the color.
Interesting thought though on banding it.

I've done a true tie-die on a drop coat, which came out looking very pretty but didn't truly look anything like tie-die when brushed out and dry. The closest thing to the effect I've gotten was to use chalk to draw in the 'swirls', and blo-pens to blend and diffuse it all.

        cool idea

Makes me want to try with, lol. I've done tye dye on textiles and i could see that if you band the hair tight enough, it could very well give that tye dye effect. Using squirty bottles and spray bottles would be a great way to get the color applied and still maintain some control.

I've done tye dye on before on a clients poodles. Check out my color page on my website. www.barknbubbles.net Their bracelets are done I just banded sections and then cut off the bands and touched it up. It was done with dye and not chalk or blo pens

I completey lost myself in all your great and inspiring work. I've never thought much about color, but now my head is spinning. Looks like so much fun. I can't undestand how oreos black coat takes color so well. What are you using? I think I might be brave and give it a go. Tips for a nubie?

                I've seen tie-dyed

I have seen that look done well on several dogs. It can be kind of "rainbow-y" colors, all beside each other. I forget if Dawn Omboy has photos like that, but I have seen it and it's cute and pretty.

                    HI Thanks
Oreos coat is actually bleached aside from when I do his legs which are naturally white. You are welcome to PM or call me if you have any questions I'm happy to help. I'm also a member of the NAPCG and can direct you towards some other great creative groomers

Grinch your site looks great! And of course so does your work. The only tie dyeing I have done has been with chalks and blo-pens. I wasn't crazy about it and couldn't wait to wash it out!
