  • Clipper Crises!

I'm not sure how to explain this, but on both of my Andis clippers there's a little metal tab that has broken off that helps keep the blade on as far as I can see.

Now since both of them have broken in the same place I can only assume it's something I'm doing. Any ideas?

Also, is it possible to change a cord on a pair of clippers? Before this little metal thing broke, it seemed that one of my clippers may have had a short. My clippers would stop when the cord was moved in a certain position.

I've had that happen with my Andis clippers twice. It's not to bad replacing the part they have it at petedge for about $2. It's called a blade lock.

Lori..if it isn't the cord, it may be the switch. I had 2 prs of Andis AG's and both would shut off on me when I moved the clipper in certain positions..really irritating. I had hubby replace the cord, and I still had the same problem. I had 3 sharpeners tell me it was a motor problem and to just toss them and buy new ones. Then I sent them to Northern Tails and all he did was replace a switch..they have been working fine since.
Also...sometimes hair gets caught in the spaces under the black plastic thing that turns the switch on and off (does that make sense? lol) , if you clean that out, it may help too.

Not sure what you are talking about with the metal tab thing.

I changed mine by myself. Just be sure to watch how you take them apart then you will not have any problems putting them back together again. I finally broke down and bought a 2nd pair just in case of a crisis.

Yes, I've broken that blade latch(lock) too. Very easy to replace. I keep a spare handy as well as the blade hinges just in case. Seems like when something breaks, it's always when you're rushed for time.

Since there is more than one thing broken on them, and I don't have any spare parts handy, I'm going to send them to Jeff along with a pair of shears that aren't cutting right. I hate messing with stuff like that if I don't have to. I just need to hold on with my other clippers until my "spare" returns!

Boy this is a nice new BBS.
Lori, go ahead and send thos clippers to me, Ill take care of you. Now is the time to get stuff fixed if you've slowed down and have extra Christmas money
Our website has video's how to fix alot of clipper related problems if you feel like doing it yourself.
We have been asked to produce a video on changing the front motor mount on both the Andis AGC and AG clippers. This is what you have to change when you strip the screws that hold the hinge on. Complicated somewhat, but The Blade Guyz will put it so simple that your kid can change it for you. Since most of the big grooming supply places are selling more and more parts for clippers, why wait to have it done by someone else when you really need the clipper. The front motor mount for an Andis is getting to be one the the spare parts we need to keep on hand.
This is my first post on the new board . (What no smiles to put on the posts?)

The secret to changing the blade latch easily is to first snap the hinge shut. This will keep the latch on the hinge when you put it onto the clipper, instead of it falling off. If you order a latch also get a hinge too. Many times the springs are broke that hold the latch in place. The Andis hinges also wear on the sides and this will make blades "rattle" even if you set the socket.

Tim thanks for the info! I'll be ordering myself a new latch and hinge this week. The hinge I have now still has one working spring so I guess I better replace it.

Well, it's probably no surprise to most of you I got my stuff back in record time. (I added a few things to the clippers) And everything is great!

Jeff, I think those Kamisoris are better than they were new! Thank you so much! I'm making DH watch that DVD this weekend so he can fix my other clippers for me!

The last time I used my clippers they had a slight burning smell to them. So, what is about to break????

They need to be taken apart and cleaned. Sounds like liquid has gotten on the brushes and making the current high which makes things go "poof" If you keep using them and they are an Andis the poof cost about $60 to fix, do it now and it will probably be 10-20.
