Why is it that I have several neighbors that let their dogs out all the time just to bark non stop all day. Late at night. I am listening to the beagle across the street howl for like half an hour now. If my dogs start barking, I bring them in. They are only out to potty anyway. But, how can this not bother them. Why do they not realize that it bothers others. I just want to buy bark collars for all of them. I even had one of them ask me what to do about it. I told her. Correct the dog. Take it inside once in a while. UUUGHHH. Sorry for the vent.

Have you tried talking to her about it? Sometimes it's best to face problems head on rather than you having to listen to the barking and stew over it. Maybe you know a dog trainer and you could give her a card. In a nice neighborly way of courseMaking Central Florida Pawsitively Purrfect since 2005.

We also have a neighbor who allows their dog to bark and bark and bark without correction when they let it out. The dog is young, full of energy and out-of-control. It's obvious the owners don't have a clue, but how the non-stop barking doesn't drive them crazy as it does the rest of the neighborhood, I don't know.
Obviously, dog owners like these don't understand the situation they're in. They don't know HOW to properly correct their dog and bringing it inside at the wrong times is only going to reinforce the barking behavior. I plan to try and have a friendly, simple chat with my neighbor one of these days about training and have thought seriously about offering to work with their dog as well as setting up play dates with our dogs.

Boy Oh boy i have one of those neighbors too, just leaves her 2 dogs out for hours and hours and hours LOOSE. The one dog which is a yellow Lab and "Marley" reincarnate. This rotten thing has jumped on the hood, doors and bumpers of my new car, and scratched it she has dug up my yard and flower I have a pond and every plant is gone no more frogs, It torn off my downspouts and a number of other things and i am sorry to say I hate this dog....I have called the owner, talked to the owner and this is what she said to me" Oh she does that to me too, yeah she is bad a jumping up on cars mine has scratches all over too, But I crate her while I am at work, so she need the exercise. She(the dog) really must like you. I was flabbergasted, I could NOt believe what she was saying, Not I am sorry, I'll kennel her, not i will give more supervision...Nothing. The other dog is a bug beagle/pug he is a good boy i feel bad for him, the lab is going to kill that dog one day it beats the heck out of him. I am at a loss as to what to do about this Lab, when the owner is so clueless.

I'd also catch the dogs and take them to the SPCA.
Nothing gets someones attention like hitting them in the pocketbook.

I don't have any neighbors that let their dogs do that, and I'm so thankful. I have 5 of my own and they are allowed to let out a few yips and woofs but it is never allowed to go on and on. If it is late at night when I am letting them out I make sure I go with them to correct any barking. I also have asked the neighbors if my dogs bother them and everyone has said they never hear them, thankgoodness!

I hate people like that. I used to live next to a family that had Shepherds. Outside permanently. Shepherds with no human contact = nasty and loud. Barking all day and all night. Well one day someone else on the block got sick of it and poisoned the dogs. He called the Sheriff and told them it was me. Jerk, I would never do that. Some people should be shot. Worst of all, they poisoned the dogs when the family was out of town for 4 days. Dogs were left in the back yard to fend for themselves. No food and no water. Sad to say but the dogs are better off dead. They bred them, those nasty nasty loud poor, no human contact Shepherds. Can you say beginning of a puppy mill.Becky

Ok, I'm one of those neighbors in the neighborhood with all the dogs.We have 4 barkers! But I know they will bark just to bark, and if one starts it's just chain reaction and then there's the bark-a-thon where my 2 girls both want the last bark...It drives me nuts! As soon as I hear them start, I break it up. They know if they don't listen when mom tells them the first time, they have to come in. So they 'usually' listen...I don't let them out at all when I'm not home. I'm so paranoid not to let them annoy the neighbors! I check with the neighbors often to make sure they're not being a nuisance(however spelled). I can't believe how other dog owners just don't care! I guess maybe it's easier - I honestly don't know how they can ignore it. I find it hard to concentrate on anything when there's endless barking AND their my dogs...I'm sure someone else's barking dog would really grate on my nerves. I don't have a good answer for ya Diamienono - Just lots of sympathy.

How can they be so rude? Doesn't it bother them also, I would think when they here the dog barking they would bring him in. In my town we have an office called quality of life, when you call them they go to the house to speak with the owners. Thats so annoying, I feel for you.

Tzu, you need to stop allowing this dog to destroy your property!! I would put a call into the sherrifs dept and file a formal complaint. Then get estimates on costs to have things repaired and give it to the neighbor. If she refuses to pay take her to court. Like someone else metioned it would be great if you could get video of the dog doing some damage, if not at least you have the police report.
Diameno, you could call and put an anonymous complaint to the police and let them come out and hit her w/a public disturbance ticket. I don't think I would bother talking to her because it sounds like she knows there is a problem but is just too lazy to take care of it. Call the cops and let them put some fear into her! Do you have a home owners association where you live? If you do, you could put a bug in their ear and see if they can handle it.SheilaB from SC
