A couple weeks ago there were a couple Labs, Kuli and Blue, boarding at my work. They were perfectly fine, playing like normal, no eating problems, no problems going potty. Perfectly fine. The day after they went home, Blue started throwing up severely had severe diarrhea, lethargic, the works. This dog was in horrible shape. They rushed him to the vet and just after they got their he passed. So the owner scheduled a necropsy with his regular vet for later that day. In the mean time they called my boss to tell them what happened, and that they don't know why and asked if anything had happened while he was boarding. My boss couldn't think of anything out of the ordinary. There is nothing toxic where the dogs can get it, and he was normal the whole time. Later in the day they called my boss back to tell him the results from the necropsy. Blue had cancer. He had it for such a long time that every organ was full of cancer. They don't even know where it started. His lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, were all infected and he finally started showing signs because it just about ate his stomach and intestines away. He was at the vet once a year for shots and his annual check up. They never thought to do blood work because he was never sick, never. Didn't show signs of anything.
This makes me want to have my dogs tested every year for cancer just in case.
