  • So helpless Rant

I learnt last Friday my granddaughter in Georgia was diagnosed with a rare childhood eye cancer Retinablastoma....something growing on her retina from the time she was born but just manifested itself Friday when her eye pupil turned clear color. Researching I found that it's very rare I the States only 300 to 500 children affected per year...Why Lynnsey I ask....she's only 6.
Savannah Hospital wants her in Atlanta ASAP to a team of specialist to try to kill the cancer and save her eye but before it spreads into the bone and surrounding tissue, either or turn into leukaemia.
All this came straight forward enough till my son learned her biological mother had cancelled her Medicaid back in Novemeber just for spite and revenge because my son now cares for Lynnsey after learning the abuse she was going through....They knew nothing about the cancellation of course and now facing a 30 day wait to re enroll her, but she doesn't have 30 days to wait, the cancer is growing daily. To top off our anguish the first specialist won't even evaluate her for surgery till a deposit of 750.00 is paid up front....This is a CHILD and they are holding her sight and her eye as random for money....It makes me so mad, this is America! They were told yesterday if she was a immigrant they would get her insurance on a emergency basis right now today! but We are American, therefore she doesn't qualify.. say What??? What do our taxes pay for then?
My son being out of work now and needing help, so family have gotten together and started a go fund me page to raise money for her operation and beg for help....nothing else left for us to do....I'm so sad being so far away from them right now,.
Thank you for listening, I just needed to vent today

What a shock! I bet you're blown away by this news.
There is something you can do. You're doing it now. You're being supportive of your son and of your grandchild. That's a big deal. Your emotional support is important!
This is a situation where a cool head can come in handy. Your son is probably unable to think clearly, so he needs you to be able to analyze the options. Good luck!

They asked about St. Jude's and the original doctor that diagnosed her was adamant she go to Atlanta and. I where else.
The optomologist that saw her stated to my son that this was the biggest tumor he had ever seen in a 6 year old.
We can only pray these skilled surgeons have dealt with mass's like this before and know the best treatment or removal of the eye is the Concequence.
Good news tonight that fund raising has raised over a thousand dollars so far, she definitely will be seeing the specialist this week! Horray.
        Thank you for listening

A little light of hope from seeing the doctor today, he can't promise but is going to try to treat the cancer and save the eye. She is to return by 6 am Monday morning for extensive test to the good eye to make sure it's cancer free. Keep praying for our little Angel that her eye still can see saved.
                    Thank You

I am in the Atlanta area, and there is a Shrines Hospital for children here. I would call them. I don't really know much about insurance, but is Medicaid the same as the Peachcare program they have for children here?

Just got back yesterday from a two week visit in the States..... they operated and removed the eye. Pathology report came back yesterday and she does not have to have chemo at this time. Healing real good and soon she will get her permanent prosthetic eye.
She's been a smiling little trooper...she even renamed me too...She has decided that Nanna suits me better lol. Love this little angel so much...God has been so good to us throughout this uncertainly. Fund raising was a great success also, He certainly has bigger plans in store for Lynnsey.
Thank you all for listening when I needed it most.
P/S Medicaid kicked in just in time...God handled it all ❤️
