  • Do I tip?

I was looking through the local newspapers classified section the other day, and I found a cleaning lady. I called her up and we discussed the day and time that I needed my apartment cleaned. She came an hour later to see what a mess I have and give me a quote.

In this situation, do I tip? If so, how much?
I used to tip my old cleaning lady, just because I felt like she was undercharging me.

A little story... When I moved here in August, I had to hire movers. I was told that it had to be a minimum of two movers and a minimum of four hours. So if they are done earlier, I still pay the full four hours. I was fine with this. They were moving my stuff for two hours before they finished. I paid them. Then they asked me for their tip! I was unsure what to do, so I handed them a 20.

I always tip when something I paid for is service based. My tip depends on how pleased I am with the services...simple as that. About the movers situation, that was just CLASSLESS for them to solicit a tip. Knowing my I would have told them and handed them a buck each.

I really don't know about tipping, I'm sure someone else will have an answer.

I can't believe that the movers asked for their tip! Oh my gosh, how unprofessional! And of course you feel guilted into giving them something, and you had to pay for two hours more than they worked! geez, that's crazy.

We have moved twice in the past 11 years and we have always tipped the movers. I did have a cleaning guy come in here a few weeks ago and clean my house. He was here about 4 hours. We did tip him I think $10-15 extra. We werent sure what to do either and since it was a one time deal we did.

I use to clean a lady's house when I lived in Texas, way before I started grooming, and I never received a tip. I don't get many tips as a groomer either, maybe I'm just working for the wrong people!!! lol

My cleaning lady comes every 2 weeks. I always tip her and give her a very nice tip at Christmas.

Ooops! I've never tipped my movers. Always thought I'd paid plenty for the service.

Well, it doesnt matter anymore. She was supposed to be here at 3:30 today and she canceled. I needed my apartment cleaned before Saturday, because we are going out with my in laws this weekend. When she came in and gave me my quote, I thought it was a little high. She probably really didnt want to do it, and expected I wouldnt accept that quote. My place is really messy. I wish she would have just told me, so I had time to find someone else. I have to start cleaning now. =(
