  • Budweiser Invt'l Show Jumping Competition

    WOW!!
My daughter got tickets for this & when her beau refused to be dragged along, she asked me.

We have (& had) horses so they are not the only awe factor.
These horses & riders are just spectacular!! To see them in person is just amazing!
Even the so called smaller horses being used in these events just fly through the air!! I mean the jumps are say 6' then the height of the horse plus the rider's upper body- they are flying!
    Intense!
And when one horse would knock off a rail & cause a fault, the whole place would just "awwww" in unison disappointment. If you've never been, try to get to one. Just truly breathtaking!!

I won't say who won in case APlanet broadcasts it.

I don't think Animal Planet usually airs that event, but I think I've seen it on ESPN before.... So either way it will be broadcast somewhere.

      Oh, I have seen them.

I saw many jumps and the Portola Valley Training Center in PV, Northern Calif near Palo Alto. I took my mother one year. She was amazed too. I never seem to catch the dressage riders. I love to see that. I took my mother one year and she was impressed. I always miss the dressage riders. I went to Portola Valley Training center near Palo Alto, Ca. Twenty mins down the freeway. I have ridden at every stable in the bay area except GG Park. I only jumped 2ft jumps but hey, I was 5+ yrs old! I rode English in 62' at Grier Girls School in Pa.Kennedy Pres. Bay of pigs or Cuba thing was happening.I loved trail riding thru the woods. I would hold my horse back so I could canter up to the group....my instructor caught on quickly. My upstart scares me for first few strides, then I Love It!My pants don't fit ( too tight) my suede leg chaps don't and probably my boots, and paddock boots too. At 61, I miss it, but probably won't be able to get back in the saddle again....as the song goes.I dream about riding at stables often.

          just wondering....

Why doesn't Budweiser sponsor grooming events?!!
I mean we probably consume as much beer as people who ride horses!!
Maybe more considering we don't have as far too fall to the ground. kidding!

But seriously, why don't companies other than dog related ones sponsor dog events?
I can't think of any car manufacturers, any soft drink makers, any fast food chains, any.....
          who have done so.

Horses = $'s ... Lots & lots of $$$ .... people love dogs, but prizes, sales, etc of dogs honestly don't come close to what they are in horses. advertisers aren't really interested in dog events until dogs start selling for and or winning millions - which will probably never happen. we'll have to settle for purina ads!

PLUS - the budwiser clydesdales are so famous and they're at a lot of big horse shows.

No body has ever won a Mercedes for best in dogshow.

You are right, horses cost hundreds of thousands of moolah. The Best dog and champion producer of champion get ,can't compete. Riding and jumping and cross country riding is a sport on an animal.....dog grooming and dog shows are not athletic sports. They are breed standard judged, or groom standard judge, it has nothing to do with the athletic ablitie of the ower and no one is riding or jumping ,or sitting on the dog! It is just entirely different and you can't compare them.Pet supply companies do their best at sponsoring dog events....and the pet foods.I am happy to groom and get a few good tips. The word "get" , refers to offspring of the sire. (male dog)

Right, I understand the cost of horses vs. the cost of dogs.

When advertisers pay for an ad in the superbowl time slot, they aren't making money. It's all a huge write off.

There are a lot more dog owners than horse owners. I'm just curious why a biggie hasn't stepped up to the plate.

I wasn't talking down to you

I know you know about horse shows etc. I was just commenting and stating differences. I think it would be great for a big dog event to be sponsored maybe it would just be agility. I can't really comment on how or what it would consist of. I have never thought of it before. I would be a spectator, as I am no award-winning groomer, or fancy Poodle designer. I don't drink beer, but instead of Clydesdales, who or what IS the rep for dogs? I don't think it's Lassie anymore.....
