  • artistic talents?

I was looking at mustluvdogs picture of the painting that she did, and it got me thinking. My new coworker is an artist. I am not what you would call an artist, but am creative and like to fudge around with stuff in my free time. I was wondering if a lot of other groomers out there are creative in other ways. We were talking about it at work. I guess grooming is an art form, and it would make sense for groomers to be talented in other art forms too!

Thank you. Yes, I have that gift. I hope I still do, as I have not painted in over 8 years back in Calif. I think anyone who can sculpt fur with scissors (I am not that good at it)has artistic talent that far exceeds my painting. I never tried clay. Well, I tried to make a little Schnauzer with clay, and can't do it. I can paint them or groom them. Like anything, it takes practice. I started with oil paint at age 10 because my dads' friend and golf partner was an artist and worked as a commercial artist in Chicago. He recognized my talent and gave me pastels and then had me try oil paints. I love the oil paint. I wqs always drawing and preferred drawing to coloring books. I made my own paper doll clothes by drawing around doll. I had zillions of my own creations. I think if I painted now, I would eat less. It keeps me busy...like this forum keeps me from tv snacking.I would love to know what else groomers can do. I know making websites is also a talent. I can't sew. I sewed Pj legs together in home ec. in Jr. High. I love to cook...and EAT.I also painted w/ magnifying glass seascape, landscape and lady for my miniature doll house. It has an art studio in the Mansard roof attic w/ canvas I made.

      hmm.

Well thats interesting. I don't think Im great at drawing. I know I had some things in the art show in high school but they were sculptures. I do think I am very creative in cooking. I come up with some really tasty and appealing to the eye foods.

I am getting into this field because people told me to be a hairstylist. I have always cut my own hair, my moms, my sisters, friends, my sons high and tights, my old cocker spaniel with a top knot. (miss her). My best friend went to school for cosmotology and she used to be baffled at how I could do the back of my head. I did it by fingers and feels of length and what not. I cant explain it. Anyways im more of a dog person than a people person so here I am.

I dont mean to stray from topic but thats how I think I am creative in the biggest way.

Now if you ask my husband he can tell you I am very creative. hee heee!

I draw, paint, sculpt and do photography. Also use Photoshop and Quark but prefer to use my hands instead of a mouse. I'm mostly into photography now. I'm scheduled to start school on March 26th for dog grooming. I was an administrative assistant, but I wanted to be in a more creative field. I'm also a certified medical assistant, licensed cosmetologist and have an associates degree in Visual Communications.

Wow I was jumping around! Sorry

I didn't even think about cooking! And baking too! I love to be creative with cooking and baking! I have thought about taking some classes for decorative baking, they offer them at the local college.

              Talents

I can't draw or illustrate, or really create, but I can manipulate existing stuff into incredible stuff, digitally. So nowadays that makes me a digital artist. And I write -- keep my friends and family in stitches. I'd have made a great stand up comedian, but I have a death grip fear of public speaking. And now that I'm older, I have no interest in "new methods" of overcoming that, because at this stage if I did overcome it, I'd just have to deal with the regret and disappointment of yet another missed opportunity to live up to that amazing potential I supposedly had and have continually disappointed others by not using.

I'm also pretty good at getting other people's goat. Kinda a hobby of mine.

My big thing is hand woodcarving. I also dance a lot (lindy hop) and am working on choreographing a routine...not that swing dancing is really an art, but maybe.
I'm definitely a resourceful crafty type. When I was in grade school, I did TONS of crafty things. Weaving baskets with yarn and twisted paper, indian beading with a styrofoam meat tray, bracelet making. I was also known as the "bowmaster" at the petsomething I worked at. I pick things up vistually, by watching others and mimicking them. I definitely consider grooming to be art. That's why I liked it so much when I got to grooming school. It's also why I like doing Poodles so much. I'm a jack-of-all-trades, but master of none...though I'd like to be able to master something someday.

Cute thread Lauren! I hear lots or raving about my cooking - but I don't enjoy it that much. I get worn out slaving in the kitchen, but I can nearly a 1000 jars of veggies and meats every year too, so sometimes I feel I sleep in the kitchen too. It's been a tradition I was trying to teach to my girls, but they don't seem to care much about it, so I may let it go. But geez there's nothing like home canned stuff. Other than cooking, I like flowers (growing & arranging), gardening, some crafty things, and writing (besides my love of animals). I have an assoc. degree in Lit. and have written numerous short stories and had them published. I was working on a series of novels and other things, but I just put it all down for now. I just can't focus on it for too long or my brain freezes! Sometimes I feel like a jack of all trades... I can't paint anything and had trouble staying in the lines when just painting my living room! Ya'll are amazing!!!

well i do have a bachelors degree in art education, so i am quite artsy & also crafty! my concentration was in photography, but we had to take a huge range of studio classes including ceramics, painting, drawing, graphic design, metals, woodworking, etc. i am a pretty good painter, although I don't really enjoy it that much & i don't have the patience to work on a piece for weeks (so i've got a ton of unfinished paintings, and very few finished). i'll post some pics. i love photography ... it's just instant gratification for me. don't get me wrong, i worked my @$$ off at it in school, but it's just faster results. i love photographing animals (of course), horses and dogs mostly.

as for my crafty side, just call me martha stewart. i knit, sew, do flower arrangements, wreaths, gardening you name it. if it's crafty, i've done it!

Well, let's see. I do all sorts of sewing and needlework, except knitting. My knitting looks like ****. But I can crochet up a storm, and love to do counted cross stitch, when I can find the time. I've dabbled in costume design, but can't hold a candle to my youngest daughter. And let's not forget bows. I make incredible bows.

I do floral arrangements, wreaths, Christmas garland and grave blankets. I worked in a florist shop when I was in high school, and can do corsages and stuff like that, but don't enjoy it as much as big arrangements.

I cook and bake a lot. I love to make fondant, marzipan, and molded flowers. My brother is a chef, and when we get together in the kitchen, it ends up looking like a war zone, lol. The worst arguement we've ever had was over making ribs. St. Louis style or Memphis style. Dry or wet. And I still tell him is sauce is puny, and only fit for sissies and little kids. But we both agree that recipes are just suggestions for ametures.

Last, but not least, I'm a fair pianist, and a trained vocalist. I sing ALL the time. I love to perform in front of an audience, both singing and acting, but I prefer singing. There are times I'd rather sing than eat. And I love to eat, lol.

You must have gotten them the same place I did lol. I am not artistic or talented in any special way lol. I get these ideas in my head, go spend a ton of $ on supplies and flop
If your dog is fat, you are not getting enough exercise!

                              Rapuzzled Great topic

Those were very interesting posts. I am not surprised at the artistic talents out there. I think grooming is a type of sculpting art form. As for singing, oh my no. Dancing,no not coordinated. I wish I had learned to play the piano as a child. My moms' mother played by ear. I dream about being in mansions or hotels or even wherehouses and I find all these pianos. fancy antique ones. I sit down and play improv. Like classical jazz artist, Keith Jarrett. I am tempted to buy a keyboard, but don't like the electronic sounds, only real piano tones. When I get t heaven, I hope to be able to jump (on a horse) very high fences and gallop over large fields...then go play Chopin. and Rachmoninoff (spell) Rhapsody on a love theme paganini.moonlight sonata etc.I am impressed by not surprised.
