  • Artificial Nails

I've noticed several pictures of groomer gals working, wearing artificial nails.

I didn't know this was possible. I'm so jealous! My nails are nubs.
    Do you have bathers?

    Just curious.

Sure is possible! I just wear the playtex gloves while giving a bath. I have had the acrylic nails for 3 years. I really never broke one in the shop I have on occaions(sp) nicked them with my clippers, but nothing major. I have mine filled every 2 weeks or so...

      No Bather-Mobile

I decided to get Gel nails more than a year ago to protect my nails. It was painful always having nails rip at the quick. I went a month this time. The fills should be done every 2-3 weeks. I hate to sit one hour or more for them to be done, so I procrastinate. Today, while waiting for a client to get home from work, I dremeled them down, but still past pads. They make my rings look better on my old wrinkled hands. French look the best. $25.,30 every 3 to 3 and a half weeks. The real Gel nails are done with Gel goop, not powder w/ stinky liquid. Some fake it with acrylic and Gel on top. I hate the acrylic smell! When I had them I could smell my nails by my head near pillow at night...yuck. Try it. They do take acetone and time to pro remove. Very tender until they grow back .Once done, you are kind of stuck with them.I am sure they are NOT at all healthy....what else is new?I can't stand Pedies...to tickelish. Also scrubber sponge is used on others...no, not on me after someone else!!!Bad infections can occur with pedie spas. I have seen horrors on the news.

Mine are nubs too. So you're not alone. Even if I had a bather I couldn't groom with artificial nails on - granted I've never tried. But I have had them before and I couldn't even pick up a piece of paper...It felt like I was all s. lol

          artifical nails

I've worked in long nails before, although now mine are in the "nub" stage. LOL

You just learn to work around it, I didn't find it a problem. The only problem I had was keeping the hairsplinters out from under them, they would catch where the porcelien and nail meet on the underside of the nail.

            Acrylics

I had acrylic put on my nails with nailpolish under it so no matter what I do to my nails, virtually nothing can make them look bad. They are hard as a rock. The only thing I don't like about it is when I have to scratch an itch, they are not as sharp as my regular nails and I can't get the satisfaction of a good scratch when I need it.

I used to go get my nails done at the salon. I had the acrylic overlay put on them. Thats how mine used to stay nice. But since they were in water a lot, I did have to every 2 weeks or they'd start to come off.
Now I just use the fake ones from CVS. Its about $5 and I just add glue every other day while I'm watching TV at night, takes about 5 minutes to put on and the glueing takes about 2 minutes. I don't know if I'll stick with it or not but I figured I'd try it. They have been on for a week now. For $5 bucks not too bad.

I faithfully got mine done for 4 years. Took them off a few months ago to save money. When I get back on my feet, I will be getting them done again.

When I was 20 or so I had my nails done w/acrylics. I went faithfully every 2 weeks for the refills. I think I had them on for about 6 months when one of my fingers started hurting really bad. I ended up having the fakes taken off and found out what was hurting me was a fungus on my real nail....yuck... Luckily it had not gotten too bad yet. I think the Dr. put me on antibiotics, but I really don't remember (it was so long ago...lol). Anyway, I gave up on the fake nails after that, except for my wedding.... then I splurged. I just figured w/my hands in water so much the posibility of another nasty fungus was to risky to bother w/fakes.

I do my own acrylics at home occasionally, and I just do them very short. You can also buy Broadway nails at Target and drug stores in super short lengths that glue on, cheap. Now, if I could get JUST the 5 sizes I need at some beauty store, I would be set! I could have extras on hand...like they sell acrylic tips!

                        Paws,

That is what I use, the Broadway nails. I got them at CVS. So far they are working out.

my sister had that :-/ when she asked the manicurist they said "oh no, no. green is OK!" green under your nail is NOT ok! you have to be very careful about nail salons and make sure everything is new & CLEAN!

I do my nails myself about once a week ... I use a 3 sided file to buff/polish/shine & a coat of light color and then nutri nail - it really strenghthens your nails ... i don't keep mine super long ... but i like a little something to put polish on. i get a lot of compliments and it doesn't cost me much!

I don't have them now, but did have them from quite some time. They were all right. I definitely couldn't do as much with them, mainly I had problems opening cages, lol. I was always hurting myself. They really did make my little sausage fingers look better, but it got to be a pain with having them filled, the money mainly. Plus, being in water all day they tended to start to fall off even before two weeks was up!

i've had mine on for a year or so,i went to a salon to get a coat of acrylic put on my nails, because my nails are always kind of long and they seemed to always break with using so much water i told the lady in the salon and she told me to just get my nails done with the gel coat instead she said it was a little more but they looked nicer and would be a litle safer she also double checks to make sure that they are glued right because that's how you end up with the fungus if you get moisture between your nail and the fake ones so just let them know of the water usage daily and tell them to glue them on good i've had no problems at all.
