  • Me and Cars

Well, I thought it was just my poor driving, but I'm wondering if I'm just not meant to have a car! lol

When I first started driving on my own I totaled my dad's volvo 240, and though it isn't most people's dream car, it was his, so he still hasn't forgiven me!

Since I've gotten my own car in April '04 I've been rear ended ($700), driven into a ditch($800), and ran into a lexus($1000). Then today, I almost got into what could have been a very serious accident, I don't know how I avoided any harm to me or the car!

I was driving in the right hand lane when a guy pulled out directly in front of me, and I didn't have enough time to stop so I swerved to the left too hard, over corrected to the right, almost ran into a fence, swerved to the left again, finally stopping in the median. Thank goodness it was early saturday morning traffic or I would've ran into other cars for sure! I drove by later and looked at the tracks I made in the mud, I didn't realize how close I came to hitting the fence, and there's a steep embankment on the other side of it.

Yesterday after the tornados I called my dad and happily told him "I didn't die today!" So I called him after the accident and told him "I didn't die again today!" He replied with "See, this week is turning out great!"

Just be forewarned if you see me on the road, keep your distance. lol

My friend just called me and told me that she totaled her Jeep. She ran into the police station. Needless to say she got a DUI. The worst part is that she had her daughter in the car. What an idiot.

Woah, she ran into the actual building? I'm guessing she won't get a slap on the wrist!

Yikes Maggy. I'm guessing that you work in a grooming shop instead of a grooming van or trailer. Stay safe!

pamperedpups, I thought the same thing when I read Maggy's thread.

Right into the police station. I guess your friend didn't need to wait around for a cop to come!! hehehe

                  Maggy,

were you on the cell phone during any of these mishaps? or maybe you need some glasses. I seriously think you should make sure before getting behind the wheel again before you or someone else gets hurt or worse!

I know changing the radio station or eating or something can cause you to be distracted while driving. If none of those are the case maybe seeing a doctor would be a good idea.

Stay safe and make sure you buckle up each and every time!

Peekapoosmom, no I wasn't on a cell phone or anything like that. When I wrecked my dad's car it was night time and raining, so it was harder to see. I was turning left at a yield on green light and didn't see a car coming, they said they were going the speed limit but with the amount of damage everyone I talked to agrees they were probably speeding.

When I got rear ended, there was a group of cop cars on the other side of the road and traffic stopped very suddenly about a block past the cop cars, I assume the person was rubber necking and saw me at the last second, they swerved to miss me but after hitting me they took off.

When I drove into a ditch, I had turned into the wrong driveway so as I was backing out I thought I was at the street so I started turning, well I wasn't at the street and there was a ditch (the kind that runs under a driveway for rain to drain off into) so I backed one wheel off the driveway, and instead of getting out to see what I'd done I floored it and it stripped my tire against the concrete, having an AWD car, they all had to be replaced.

The accident with the lexus was because I was turning right on a road from a parking lot and the other driver was changing lanes from the middle lane to the right lane, I never even saw her, but I do think this one is my fault, I was getting impatient for traffic to clear (I usually like having two lanes clear before turning) so I just went. Duh, now I know why I like having two lanes clear. lol

The one the other day was because the guy didn't look before turning, the first thing he said was that it was his fault and he should have looked. I made the mistake of panicking and I over-corrected which caused me to swerve all over the place.

Its weird, I do have a bad habit of talking on the phone and playing with the radio, etc while driving, but all of the accidents I've been in have happened while paying attention. lol

holy cow. I am so sorry all of these things happened to you. guess we have to chalk them off to murphys law.

At least you haven't been hurt. and hopefully no one else was hurt either.

                      defence makes a great offence!

stay safe and hopefully you won't have any more accidents!

Yes I'm very grateful I've never been hurt. This most recent incident is probably the closest I came to being seriously hurt. I came frighteningly close to running through the fence and down a ditch, I was also lucky there was no guard rail because I would've ran into that for sure!

                          Ugh!!

I got in yet ANOTHER accident last night...I'm so mad at myself!

I got in the wrong lane (left turn only at an intersection, wanted to go straight) so instead of making my turn and just turning around, I waited until traffic was clear (or so I thought) and started to change lanes to go straight. I don't know if the other car's lights were off or what, but I never saw them and they knocked my bumper off and it hit someone else's car!

So the car that hit me took off so fast I never even saw the color/type/license plate/etc and I of course got a ticket and I have a $1000 deductible so I'll be paying at least that much I'm sure.

The ironic thing is if the idiot had stopped my insurance probably would have covered their damage.

I had no grooms today (lucky me) so I took the day off to stay home and mope, tomorrow I need to get a rental from enterprise.

OK, now you're really scaring me. I'm just glad I live all the way over here in Tampa so there's no change I will run into (ha ha) you on the road! But of course there are plenty of crazy drivers over here to keep me on my toes... I grew up in MA and commuted every day for 9 years into Boston, which was no picnic, but never have I seen such idiot drivers as I do in Tampa.
