  • Long time groomer, new to the forum

As I read through some of the posts, I realize I've probably been grooming longer than most of you have been alive. I've trained several groomers and would be happy to answer questions about any facet of the job. I started on a mobile but have worked in salons, boarding kennels and a veterinary hospital as well as owning my own business. It's a hard job but I loved it and though the old body wont let me groom full time anymore, I still have 20 or so clients I won't let go. Even wrote a funny book on my experiences. Look forward to conversing with fellow groomers. Kathleen

Been grooming 44 years and still going 5 to 6 days a week 5 to 7 dogs a day most under 20 pounds only a few on the large side. I work both mobile and salon all the small dogs mobile and the few large ones at the salon but most small. Have also taught several people to groom over the years. Will not do anything else for a living.

You've got me beat! I started in 1979 but the arthritis in my hands and carpel tunnel which I never got fixed make it harder now. I feel like the tin man after a day of grooming. Oil, I need oil LOL.

I started in 1972 at 16. I have carpel tunnel too but must work need the money. My husband divorced me in 2008 and our retirement investment account crashed. I am now trying to save enough money to retire by 75 and after that work part time for fun in a pet store.

We need an oldies but goodies forum!!! I went to grooming school in 1969, and was show grooming cockers before that (think I was 10 when I got my first clippers-Oster A-2). Worked for a pro handler after that, then groomed at a kennel and salon. Have owned my own businesses since 1977 in 2 different countries. My hands still work, but, sadly, after diagnosed with heart failure, let most of my clients go at my home shop. Kept 10, plus my own. Miss the $$$, but kinda nice to not have to work every day!
Old groomers never die, they just go at a slower clip.

            Groom on!!!

I've been grooming for 40 years....35 of which I've owned my own shop.

Started showing dogs and competing in 4-H when I was 10.

My body still works fine, so I plan to just keep grooming. I love what I do.
