new from Penna

Ihave been a pet groomer since 1980. My son & I just recently opened our own shop. I went to N.Y. school of dog grooming in 1978. Then trained with obed. trainer for 32 wks. and after that bought a standard poodle and learned about showing and grooming. Shortly after that I worked for a wonderful vet in our area and he taught me so much more. I'm still learning and still loving being a dog groomer and looking forward to chatting and making new friends here.

Wow Dakota, NY School of Grooming....that was my dream school, but I ended up settling for one in Florida (Merrifield) that was close to home. It sounds like you have had an interesting career. Post some picts of your ST. Poodles we'd love to see them!

How in the world did you get your son to go into business with you?? I've asked all of my kids if they want to learn and everyone of them have said 'no'

It was easy . My son worked for a lg. company that was downsizing and he 'was worried that he was being laid off. So he wanted a bus.It was pizza or grooming yay the winner was !!!! He of course was picked up by another comp. and it's just me and my cats and dogs. I love it

Hii , From what I understand Florida has an excellent school. I couldn't go that far because I had four small children at home. I traveled back and forth everyday for a year. Plane fare would have been a little too much. lol

My daughter was 8 when she started helpeng me groom cats. she's 29 now = owns 3 cats and is the best cat mom I know but no interest in shop grooming

Poodlemania and Dakota8 --- I'm planning on going to Hershey in September. Maybe I'll meet you there. I've never been to the Hershey tradeshow but I understand they have good seminars there. Looking forward to it!!!

Hi Dakota,

My 7 year old just loves helping me check the dogs in. The clients are so wonderful and get a big kick out of her helping me. I have a pretty mellow crew of dogs though. My dream is to open a shop with her someday.

Right now we're operating out of a family run vet clinic and it works well. I'm learning what I do want to do and don't want to do when I open my own shop.

The whole NY things is very impressive. I've wanted to take an animal behavior course at the ASPCA. Maybe someday...
