  • New name, not new to board

Hi, I was formerly PawsPrfctGrooms, but changed to PawsitivelyPerfect because that is the name of my shop in Kentucky. I am an owner and beginner groomer/bather for the groomer who works with me. I do nearly all the bathing and love it. I have learned so much from this board and think the new format is really nice.

I just noticed that there is another Pawsitively Purrfect (love the name btw, lol) and hope there won't be any confusion. I'm Deb and hope I'll be able to contribute some things to the board as well.

      Hi There Pawsitively!

I saw that you said that you are the owner/bather? I was wondering if that means that you are still learnig grooming, but bought the groom shop? I am learning grooming right now, but have always owned my own (other type of ) business. I would actually feel more comfortable owning my business even while learning. Thought I would ask if that is what you are doing?

Yes, I bought the shop because the circumstances seemed right. I thought I would learn to groom as we went along because I had 2 groomers who wanted to job share. I've worked with dogs and horses for over 20 years and had the opportunity to learn various aspects of pet care and handling.

All good plans have their pratfalls and mine was no exception. I ended up with my good ( ?? ) friend bailing on me as an associate and dog trainer, one groomer buying own shop, and other groomer who cannot work more than 3 days a week. So, I would wait until you can work pretty much independently without having to rely solely on someone else to do the bulk of the work.

Bottom line, my shop will be successful eventually. I will get the confidence to groom customer dogs and I will be doing what I really enjoy. I hope you will also realize your dream someday.

It is sad when a friend betrays you, but it sound like you have a great attitude and loving what your doing goes a long ways towards a fabulous life.

How long have you owned our shop?

The same thing happened to my friend, now it's 5 yrs later, shes really good. The shop is beautiful and does a great business, what she did was open a self serve, while she was learning. Good Luck! Persistance pays....

Celebrating 1 year anniversary soon of shop opening

              Hi,

I opened my shop for business in March of last year. Because I have had no luck getting another groomer for the shop while I'm training, I have resorted to working next door at the library in the evenings about 20 hrs a week to supplement income. Hopefully by summer, I'll be open more hours at the shop and won't need the added income.

I did have some capital to begin with and was able to equip my salon with at least a good supply of quality equipment.

This board has been extremely helpful as I have tried many of the products and grooming tips at the shop. Hooray for all the advice and helpful tips from everyone. Keep them coming please!!

I'm impressed that you had the courage to buy the groom shop as a bather. It sounds like you are already realizing your dream. As you say, I think that it is best to wait to purchase a grooming shop until you are able to do the majority of the work, but if the opportunity is right, as a business person, like you I doubt that I could turn it down. Best of luck to you!
