Retiring Groomer

Hi, my name is Judy,

I have groomed for 20 years, the last 10 I have owned my own mobile grooming business. I am retiring from grooming due to some physical limitations. I joined this board in hopes of helping new groomers or new to mobile groomers and also hoped along the way, I would find a need in the industry that I could try to fill.

Hi Judy, and welcome to the board.I too have manny years of grooming under my collar and I have a question for you.What I want to know is how you can afford to retire?lol I have stressed over this for a long time.I make a decent living as a mobile groomer and have done manny things to tighten my budget,but still not enough left over at the end of the month for some very important needs that are not being met.I have crossed alot of hurdles in the past few years due to my screwed up personal life.The three needs not being met are that my daughter and I do not have health ins.I don't have a retirement plan and every time I get a little nest egg built up some emergency crops up and there goes the money!So as head of household here I sure would like some advise on the subject.Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

oh I wish I could retire! same question? how'd ya do it? lol have you thought about teaching?? that where we are all suppose to go when we're too old to groom I'm told! heard on the groomervine! lol

Hi Judy. I also have been grooming for 20 years and my body is worn out. I hope to push it to 50 in 11 years in this profession. So do tell me what you have planned with all your free time now.

Thanks for all the welcomes, this is such a friendly site!
I am retiring from grooming, but still need a job. Bad s make the work too painfull. I was hoping to sell the business and take a few months off, but was unable to find a buyer. So I am closing the doors the week after next, it has been a very difficult thing to do. I am hoping to find some niche in the grooming world or even just the dog world. I applied to a couple of doggie day cares in the area, but they pay minimum wage. I was hoping with 20 years experience with dogs to make more than that. I will just keep reading posts on here and maybe asking opinions on thoughts, and see what opportunity presents itself.
