What kind of dogs do you have? I was lookoing at your "user"/"screen" name. I started showing Borzoi, and Whippets when I was about 11. I am a wife/mom now (married almost 11, and mom to a 9, 5, and 2 yr old) I gave up handling/showing for mommy wifehood. I have been working in grooming shops since I was 13, I am 30. At the time my dad was Show chairman for our kennel club, so I got in as a bather/assistant on the weekends (at 13) with a member who owned a shop. By the following summer I ws taught to "finish"dogs at the same shop. I also helped a cpl handlers in the summer while I finished highschool.
I would do ANYTHING for a "show" dog/puppy I would LOVE to get my kids involved it led me in SO many "right" directions. We currently own a "pet" Lhasa, and L-C Chihuahua. I rescued them from a pet store that was getting "evicted" from their Plaza. Animal comtrol let me take them with an agreement to "fix" them, by them for a small adoption fee.
I WOULD LOVE to get my kids involved in "Juniors" (handling) and have something to show/special in the "breed" ring myself. The probem I have is having a "breeder" take me seriously since I stopped "showing" about 4 years ago. I even had the breeder/co-owner of my last "show dog" (Borzoi) make me send our dog back, since I didn't get him finished quick enough, or get him to "enough" shows. My daughter (5 at the time) 91/2 now was devestated. I even had him SINGLED out (only needed majors to finish) I had a hard time finding them (majors) while I had him "out"
I don't even know what beed/breeds you have. I just went off on the "sighthound" part of your screen name "sorry"
Welcome to the board it is a wealth of informationIf you sweat the small stuff, all you have is small soggy stuff.....

(Some of "the younger ones" whine more than we were allowed to get away with...but the flip side of that...is they have more to whine about I guess?)
Remember when we had to walk barefoot thru blizzards, for 4 miles, to get to our grooming jobs........?
This is a great forum for all groomers. Always something to learn or share.Often it's not what you say, but how you say it.

Welcome! What kind of sighthounds do you have? I used to breed Pharaoh Hounds and now have a wonderful wire coat Ibizan. Stewie, if you lived closer, I'd let you use him for juniors, he's such a mellow guy. 4sibes never had to walk through the blizzard, she always mushed there. (hee) I'm only at 26 years, so I've got a little catching up to do. This is a great place to meet all sorts of great folks and we old dogs can learn all sorts of new tricks. I know I have!

Enough of that, welcome to the board! I've been grooming about 15 years now, married for what feels like 100 LOL(that's not necessarily bad), have a 6 and 2 year old and own a mobile grooming business. I ramble a lot so hopefully you can stay awake through my posts!

Whippets
I have a whippet!
What a welcome! You guys have me rolling on the floor LOL.
I think I'm going to like this board.
O.K. I'm EEK! 48 I have three grown children, I have one son and he is serving in the navy.
Two girls who are mommies to my5 grandkids. I had my 5th grand-baby yesterday a girl 7pounds 5 onces 20 inches long and of corse the most beautiful baby ever born to date lol
I love grooming always have and deeply care about the animals I care for.
I just quit a job I had a few days ago due to my belief in honesty and care of my professional reputation. I have worked for other places and enjoyed it and the people I worked with.
I have also had my own salons I've enjoyed both worlds. So now I'm looking but will be extremely careful where I call home next.
I did find it rewarding to help new people learning to become groomers. watching them find the confidence in themselves and create their first masterpiece. It is as exciting as if I created the groom myself. It is wonderful when you know that they will be more then just someone who clips hair, when you know they love animals and are proud of the profession they have become a part of. To me that is a true Groomer!
I look forward to this community hope to make many new friends.
