I came across the name of this site and board in a book I was reading ("Start your own home-based pet business"- I'm actually a trainer) but thought this might be a good place to come lurk and learn- I groom a few neighbors' dogs (mostly bath-type dogs- a papillon, some shelties, and a shih tzu and a cocker, who belong to a lady on a fixed income who can't afford to have them groomed as often as she should- they go to the 'real' groomer every other month and I do a touch up and keep them combed out on the in betweens) and have worked as a bather in the past, but am always interested in learning more, even if I won't be doing it professionally. I'm opening a doggy daycare this summer and hope to eventually offer grooming services there (once it's up and running enough that we can afford the remodel for the grooming area- the building we're looking at has an area (with tub) that'd be fine for bath dogs but the lighting isn't good enough for anyone to scissor ANYTHING back there, let alone squirmy dogs, and enough income is coming in to support a fourth employee who will do that full time)- but in the mean time, I'm always looking to learn everything I can.
I have a collie (smooth) and a corgi (Cardigan), and hope to add a poodle to my dog-family sometime later this year.
We dabble in conformation (only the collie, Cardi is retired) and have a whole lot of fun in rally and obedience.
Nice to meet ya'll!
