Hi everybody my name is Millie and i am from England. I am an architecture student surrently studying in Czech republic. For my project i am going to make a dog grooming area/cafe and possibly a checkup/injection area for the dogs. I came acroos this site during my research and was wondering if anybosy had any comments or advice that could help me with my design? I have not much experience with grooming but i have two dogs at home (springer spaniels). Would a cafe work next to a gromming area for people to wait for their dogs? Neway if anybody could help i would much appreciate it!!

Thanks
Millie

Hi Millie,
Welcome! There's a place called Muddy Paws Wash in Annapolis, MD that has combined a coffee bar with a dog wash. Their website says, "Stop by for your favorite hot or cold coffee drink, smoothie, pastry or light lunch snack." Here is the link to their website and a link to a news video about the place:

President Barack Obama on Thursday signed a bill revamping the Department of Veterans Affairs and reducing wait times for veterans seeking health care as the agency attempts to move past the recent scandal.

Hope this helps!

Hello Mille! I do not think a cafe in the same building of a grooming shop would work well. Dogs tend to get excitable if their owners are around and it may encourage owner's to stay and make the groomers job more difficult. My policy is that I call the client when their dog is completed. This may encourage owners to "pop in" to check on the status of their pet. Once the dog hears or sees the owner it won't stay still and takes MUCH longer to complete the groom. I hope this helps.

Thanks for your replies

Thanks very much for your repies to my questions. Sheri- that link was very helpful. I agree that it may not be ideal for the owners to distract the dogs when being groomed. I think my proposal will be like a continuous movment i.e. you drop the dog off at the beginning then go through to have coffee/something to eat and then wen the dog is ready u just pick him up again. So that the owners arnt watching the dogs and distracting them. Do you think it would work if dogs were also allowed in the cafe aswell?im not sure if many dogs will fight or not. Also i was considering the possibility of having a mobile check up centre that could attach to the grooming area or move round the city to give injections/offer advice. I would appreciate ur thoughts once again on these topics if that is possible.
Thanks again
Millie

It depends if you mean a full grooming salon where the dogs get full haircuts are just like the one in the link where it's a dog baths only. You would definitely have to be careful about dogs coming face to face in such a small area, they could feel threatened by the closeness and a fight could ensue.

Hello there, and welcome!

I live in Maryland, but hadn't even heard of the cafe that was metioned by Cosette! That was so very cool! I think that it is a great idea. Good luck with it all!
