  • Hi

Hello Im starting Petco tomorrow. I am so impressed with the company and their program. I am so sorry to see so much negative feedback about the Petsomethings. I plan to put everything I have into this experience and learn from a talented instructor. I am very excited about this opportunity and can't wait to share some pics of my grooms and prove that with the drive, experience, and support of other groomers, one can become a wonderful petsomething groomer.

I am looking forward to working with a really down to earth and plain out nice guy of a store manager. I am looking forward to grooming in a really spacious and clean salon. I hope to be one who changes some of your minds about the product of a petsomething petgroomer. Im so excited to get benefits for my family too!

Hello - best of luck to you - I have worked at petsmart before and it is definately a different enviroment than a private shop. I have also know some fantastic groomers who worked for petsomethings and have seen some bad ones too. when you groom in a fishbowl everything is seen , the good and the bad.i'm right around the corner from you in medford nj so if I can be of any help let me know kelly

      Welcome.
I was a petsomething-trained groomer too, until I got bored. I learned from a VERY talented petsomething grooming manager (from a different store) and I was respected and appreciated by my coworkers and I respected and appreciated them, as people and as groomers). I only left because I couldn't learn anymore from those with whom I worked, and the corporate policy did not support some of the things I had learned at a grooming expo. I left on very friendly terms with everyone. So yes, I agree that talented and respectable groomers can come from petsomethings. As a side note, just because a style of grooming doesn't mesh with the other groomers, DOESN'T make it wrong. That was the one thing I had a problems with at my store. I learned the updated groom styles and my coworkers didn't agree with them. If it's what the client likes, keep doing it. Just use "Note From the Grooming Table" as your guide. GOOD LUCK!

There is nothing wrong with getting a basic education at a Petsomething. I've been a Petsomething Groom shop Manager and Corporate Grooming Instructor. Hopefully the managers follow through with all they have promised, learning is pretty much the same where ever you are when you are starting out.

        Good luck, keep us posted.

          Congratulations

Hi Cookie and WELCOME! I'm excited with you about starting work tomorrow as a GROOMER...YAY!! We have a petsomething about 45 min from me and I hear wonderful things about it! I think it's the groomer that tends to be critiqued so harshly there not necessarily the establishment - so don't worry - I bet you will do GREAT! Let us know how things are going for you and don't forget to post groom pics - Look forward to hearing more!

            petco is great!

I am also going to work at a petco tomarrow. It will take some getting used to with the different shampoo and drying equipment, but what the heck the beni's are worth it. I will be working with a store manager that has a great rep for working with his groomer manager. I can't wait! Good luck to you, and have fun!

Wow thanks for all the responses. I have Notes From the Grooming Table. lol I love it! Its amazing. I am really happy you can use the groomers helper there. I was hoping so. I will be the third groomer in the shop. Its spacious and not cramped so I think we will all have no issue with space or competition. I have such a great feeling about this!

Cookie you will do fine. I like your positive outlook. Don't listen to all the negitivity. Gain all that you can. This will not be your only job in grooming but a start in a long career path. Never close your mind about varied methods of how to groom a dog. There is more then one way to skin a cat. lol Anyhow, we are neighboors. I grew up in CH. In fact i just spoke to Kelly on the phone. She is very nice. Her and I can give you any advice you might not get from your grooming manager. We have been around the block a few times over. I will PM you my phone #.

I'm so so happy for you! I know you'll do great and I can't wait to meet you at intergroom!

One little peice of advice....I would start reffering to them as a pet something. When I was about to work at one, there employee handbook had a whole article about message boards and how your not to get involved. Again though it was the other petsomething lol.

I'm soooo happy for you. You'll do great!! You'll turn all those petsomething haters right around!! When I was going to work for one, the girl that was going to be teaching me came from Nash. So you might get the education that you could have spent 9 thousand to get. Thats wishful thinking. You are gonna do so great! I have total faith in you!!

i am a former grooming manager for a petsomething. it is like working anywhere. the first year was fab, because my store manager deferred all grooming decisions to me. the next 8 months were horrible because the next store manager who wouldn't have known a dog from a horse, questioned everything and was consistently changing my stock requests. since i had 6 gallons of flea shampoo, why did i need any other. i made wonderful friends, who are still in my life. the benefits are good, but they are large and good groomers don't have more value than bad groomers.

Hi Cookie..Congrats on the job at petco. I have wondered about what it is like to work there. Let us know. It seems from your post like it will be GREAT. I worked at Petsomething for about 6 months. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the groomers and working area etc.....the store manager...well lets just say he didn't know a dog from a goldfish and Rah, Rah, Rah...at their unpaid store meetings....
Anyway, keep us posted Good Luck.
