Heartbreaking. That's the only way to describe it when you think of dogs spending so much time in a shelter or the city pound waiting for a loving family to come swoop them up.

In some cases, there are dogs that will never get the chance to go "home."

A mobile dog grooming company in the Valley is looking to do its part to help our four-legged friends.

Gerald Piosenka, owner of Woof Wagon Mobile Pet Grooming, wants to show prospective dog owners that even the dogs who look to be in the worst condition can be transformed with just a simple grooming.

"Many dogs arrive at the shelter in very poor condition and because of their appearance, stand little to no chance of being adopted," Piosenka said. "We want to enhance the dog's opportunity to get adopted."

Piosenka said the groomers recently received a call from a volunteer at the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control's (MCACC) Phoenix shelter concerning a rescued dog who was in bad shape -- smelled bad, extremely matted fur, long nails which impacted his ability to walk.

It was clear to Piosenka that the dog, Marx, had little chance of ever being adopted.

Piosenka and the Woof Wagon groomed him free-of-charge. Piosenka said it was so bad they nearly had to shave him down to his skin in some areas.
