I have a client whose house smells like his room mate. BO (very large capital letters). I have told the client that the dogs smell like his room mate. This is a 2 week client that I have had for about 8years. The smell has become stronger to unbaerable (sp).
    I need help:

The dogs smelll ike BO, how does one get rid of this smell?

How can you get the owner to bring the dog to the door, so I don't have to enter?

    ewwww

wow, that sounds so gross. Perhaps the BO odor on the dogs is because the room mate is holding, petting, and cuddling with the dogs. If the house is that bad that you are grossed out by the smell by entering the house, that is a bad situation.

If you have already told the pet owner that the dogs smell like the room mate, then you should just tell them that you prefer the owner pass the dogs out the door, or bring them out to you due to the smell.

Has the pet owner acknowledged that it is the room mate creating the smell? Have they mentioned the smell is a problem? Obviously the hygeine is awful and you should'nt have to deal with that.

I've been in homes that reeked of urine and it's not pleasant. I dropped a dirty client once when I first started mobile grooming. The dog always had fleas, she never did anything like bombing, so everytime the dog was groomed I had to deal with the fleas and I finally told her that I refuse to continue flea baths because I didn't want to risk my other clients. That was the end of that!

Blame it on allergies. Tell him there is something in his house that makes your eyes itch and just ask him to pass the dogs out the door. Keep some cologn in your pocket so as soon as you get the dogs spray them so you can't smell the BO as much. Then Grimenator. Funny, that someone cares enough to get their dogs done every 2 weeks, but can't smell the BO. Maybe it is religion that prevents them from using some Speed stick!

LOL, I had to laugh because when I lived in Korea I took a Korean class with a Nepalese monk---he was the NICEST guy on the planet. But boy did he smell! LOL, I feel bad saying it, but it's true!. All of us had a hard time being around him. What do you do, you can't tell someone they STINK! Finding deodorant in Korea was nearly impossible (the Koreans/Asians don't have the glands we Western folk do, so they don't smell like B.O.---they just smell like Kimchee and Garlic, lol).

          Cigarette smell in homes etc.

I hate to enter homes with cigarette smell. It is their home, so I can't tell them not to smoke;some do smoke in front of me. I do have asthma that isn't bad enough to use inhaler or meds for. I don't do well with them, as I get a puffy face and headaches with any inhalers etc. Sat, it happened. I had to stand inside to inquire how they wanted the dog done. The door has to be closed so the dog doesn't run out. It has always been a problem, I just suffer thru. I did mention I am allergic to cigs, but she kept smoking from across the room anyway. I feel like I am in a mayonnaise jar and the lid is shut. I can't breeeeeethe. If a house is too stinky from urine, I usually never go back there. I hate to say, some seniors just don't know it. I am sure my house isn't always smelling like roses, as my boys are bad in the master bath. I clean every day, ruining the grout with chlorox or some kaboom cleaner. I do wait so as not to expose the dogs to fumes too much.I have heard of people ( me as a groomer) smelling like a dog, never a dog smelling like a BO human!Owners' perfume, never BO....eewwwwwh.Think I'd let that one go elsewhere.

Too FUNNY!! Does it smell like onions? Ha! Ha! I was ROFL reading your post. We use skunk smell deodorizer spray that we get through Nature's Specialties, but I can't find it on their website. (GRRR!) But you can call them and ask. 1-800-551-SOAP (7627) I haven't used it on a stinky person, but it does get rid of cat urine smell. Wouldn't hurt to try. Good Luck!

For your own comfort, do what homicide detectives do. Keep a small jar of Vicks handy and dab some under your nose when you go to the house to get the dog.

For the dog, I'd use Grimeinator and baking soda. I'd also use a vinegar rinse. But I wouldn't be overly concerned about getting the smell out of the dog, because the owner probably can't smell it anyway.

basically its like this...the owner is SO USED to the BO smell that they dont think its unusual. like me...i had 2 dogs at one time (now just 1) a cat, a bird and two rats. i volunteered at the animal shelter doing kennel work. now my fiance would complain that i stunk...like a dog. id go i do? i dont even NOTICE that i smell like a dog because to myself i honestly dont. im so used to the doggy odor that i dont even notice and no one else has ever mentioned it to me before...but hes never had a dog so obviously he dosnt know what its like LOL! he said at my house the floor is gross cause its hairy...well its carpeting...and the hair sticks to the carpeting. hey what can i say? when ya have a dog and a cat and carpeting...well...hair happens LOL! i said what do you think is going to happen when we have 2 or 3 dogs, 3 cats etc etc? think the carpetings going to be nice and clean? i dont THINK so LOL! i said my carpet in my bedroom is the same as his carpeting in his room so it dosnt attract hair as much...but hey how often do you really spend time on the floor anyways? LOL!
the owner dosnt notice the BO smell because they live with it everyday day in and day out.

                  Yuck

There is actually more than one Country's culture that feels that a man's BO is alluring. The women in the culture find it "enticing" if you know what I mean. It can make me sick. I can sure see you wouldn't want to lose the good customer. I think just say that you wish the dog handed out, simple. I'm sure my shampoo would eliminate the odor, surely you could toss dog in bath barely breathing till done. Hmmm perhaps another good reason to wear a face mask, lol. Might help.
Money will buy you a pretty good dog but it won't buy the wag of it's tail.

Ewwwww. When I was pregnant w/my son I suffered from a lot of morning sickness, (don't know why it's called morning sickness cause it hit all day long...lol) and I had a very heightened sense of smell.

One day this very grubby looking girl (no shoes, torn shirt, greasy hair) came in w/a poodle that she wanted me to groom. I wanted to throw HER in the tub because she smelled sooooo bad. It still makes me queasy to think about it. I was literally swallowing my gorge the whole time I was talking to her....I was so close to yarking on her it wasn't even funny!!! I did take the poodle as a walk-in groom and gave her to my other groomer....lol... Tina was very amused because I kept catching a whiff of the owner from the dog or just floating in the air and I was running for the nearest garbage can or sink or toilet....Blah... It seemed to take forever to get that stink out of my shop!!!! Tina said it was all in my pregnant head....lol...and that the smell left w/the stinky girl.

I've seen a groomer in the past use a small dab of vicks to rub through a dog's coat. Has anyone heard of this or done it? Is it supposed to be for the smell, or make them shiney maybe?
