How long should it take?

Im thinking about starting a mobile grooming business and I was wondering on how long should it take on avg for big dogs and toy dogs to wash and groom. Just a rough estimate. I don't want to do it too quickly but at the same time i don't want to take too long and waste time.

Does it take longer for mobile compared to in-store? If anybody knows could you tell me the avg time compared to mobile and in-store.

As everyone knows times vary greatly depending on condition and behavior of the dog, but on average bath dogs take me about 45 minutes (I make sure they are completely dry), most small full groom dogs like toy poodles, shih tzus take me about 1 hr 15 minutes, bath and trims take me between 45 min and an hour. Goldens take me about 1 hr 15 minutes, standard poodles take me between 2 1/2 to 3 hours for a comb/scissor cut. These times are comfortable for me so I am rarely late for next appointments and rarely feel rushed. I believe I'm slower than most. I average 6 dogs a day.

I would say the average is 1 1/2 hours. That includes quick chit chat to get paid.

I average about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 min to do most trims.
I factor in the time spent collecting and general chit chat. Most of my customers like a little chit chat time. I also make sure I block out 1/2 hour during the day as a lunch (sometimes this is only catch up time) I do not like feeling rushed to get to the next appointment. I average about 6 to 8 dogs a day.

Those times are like mine. The first grooms normally take longer for me but after that when I know the dog they take a lot shorter. I have some goldens that take just an hour. GSD take me about an hour. I no longer take Standard Poodles because they take me too long, but the ones I still groom take me under two hours because they are just puppy cuts with no fancy anything (not even clean feet and face).
Bathing a cat takes me about 30-45 mins. I tell the new clients that a cat takes about 45 and really never longer than that because thats about as much as a cat will tolerate with a groom.

Small dogs with shorthair take around 20 - 30 mins, labradors, GSDs, Goldens, Aussies, Borders, etc. take about an hour. Shelties and small - medium dogs that get cuts take between 1 and 1 1/2 hours. Standards take me about 3 hours, but I am not fond of them! (the fanciest trim I will do is a short lamb or a simple shave down). Really big hairies take about 2+ hours a piece. (Keep in mind, my times are for dogs in good condition that are not difficult to groom!) I also groom slower than others! I have been getting very busy lately, and now have to give myself an actual lunch break to eat, pee and make phone calls. I am spreading the appts out a little more too, to make time to keep up on cleaning and make pit stops! It varies if I am doing 1 dog per stop or 3, but, I generally groom 4 - 6 dogs a day (I do a LOT of large dogs). Some days I have done 8 or 9, but these were lots of small, easy dogs at multi pet households. I do try to leave time to chat, but have gotten better at saying, "Well, I must get going!"
