  • no need to be rude

I just recently bought a used wag'n tails van so I am trying to sell my trailer. I've posted ads in a couple of different places with a price and general info. Most of the people that have called have been very nice and when asking about price nicely asked if the price is negotiable. One person called to ask questions and when they found out it wasn't exactly what they were looking for became very rude and basically tried to get me to give up my trailer for 1/3 of the asking price. I was so annoyed that someone would act like that. Geesh if it's not what your looking for just say so and say goodbye without getting rude and nasty about it

I'm not in a rush and do not have to sell it at all, just thought the extra money could be put on the van loan. If it comes down to it my husband will start using it to do bath only dogs on the weekends.

Thanks for listening to me vent

Kinda like when a potential client calls, you go through all the details of what you provide, tell them the price, and then they yell at you because you charge too much for a groom! I've actually only had that happen once but it really almost made me laugh. Its great that you have time to sell, I think you will be successful in moving it as lots of people are looking for used right now.

I've had the total opposite experience about calling about buying used vans and sellers becoming rude when I ask if they'll take a certain price and they become rude and nasty.

Same thing can't you just say no that's to low and leave it at that. I think it's all just part of trying to buy or sell something that not everyone you deal with will be pleasant kind of like any customer service job.

At least if you wanted to, you could've been nasty right back. You don't need business from this person and you don't need to drop the price on your rig.

BTW, I'd like to see it. Is it on Petgroomer used vehicles?

I think no matter what you are trying to sell people will try to get you to come down on the price. I hate selling my stuff, because people will try to make you feel like your stuff is not worth what you are asking for it.

Yes it is Mama. My husband built it for me a couple of years ago to get me started. We did it on a shoestring budget and I have been completely honest with anyone that calls it does need some upgrades. I believe it's the only trailer listed in NY.

schn that is exactly what happened

let it run off your back

              well...here's my input.

#1 I'm looking for a used 'something' (trailer or van...) in my pricerange which I'm having a hard time finding and am now debating trying to build my own... I'd look at it but I'm not in NY in fact, all the way across the country

#2 and more importantly, remember, everybody wants a bargain. And to save. On every thing. soooo... dont worry about it. and dont feel the need to haggle. Just know in your mind what your bottom price is and when someone asks whats your bottom price, etc, you have your pat answer. and, then let it be. if they have to be snooty...then too bad for them that they are having such a wrotten day.

I haven't bothered to call anyone yet b/c everyone has been way more than I can afford right now, but if I called or emailed I would say 'whats your absolute deal breaker price. " I mean its honest..everyone wants the best price they can get.

This is why I am VERY specific in ads where I am selling stuff. I use Craigslist alot, and by stating the price in the ad, whether or not I am flexible on price, and the terms, any wear and tear etc, every little thing, there are no surprises on the phone. Keeps my phone from ringing off the hook, and only the most interested people call. I even post my grooming prices on my website, and I no longer get so many dreaded price checkers.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking, lol. Happens to me quite often because my prices are pretty high for the area. If only these jacka$$es new how busy I am and that I don't NEED their business, they might feel silly! I have plenty of people that appreciate me and don't care about price!
