  • UGh. I now have nothing for monday

My cust. for monday has 12 dogs and I spend the entire day there every 8 weeks. She called today and said we have to reschedule. She went to doc on friday and has to get some testing done tomorrow. Wish she would have called me on friday. Not that I really could have filled the slot that fast, but now I am out a ton of $ that I was in need of to pay my bills. Said she will call me tomorrow after she gets back from the doc and reschedule when she knows what is going on.

That really stinks. You know, you might consider breaking this client's dogs up and putting some on different days if this is likely to occur again (do 4-6 one day, 4-6 another day, etc). That way, you won't be out an entire day of income should she call last minute to reschedule. I have jury duty tomorrow so I had to reschedule my clients...so we are in the same boat!

Well, I have to go get the sewing machine from the repair man. Could have bought a new one for what it is costing to get this one fixed. Mom and I are going to spend the day sewing up collar covers.

I live in fear of pulling jury duty! Hope you don't have to miss more than one day.

Thats too bad.I hate when my schedule falls apart. It happens from time to time.I just have to enjoy the day off and usually things get busy to make up for it.The last poster had a good idea.I used to try and do all of a clients dogs in one day.I know this lady with four cockers.Talk about being tired at the end of the grooms.I now break them up to different appointments. The lady was real understanding.I hope you get some last minute appointments.

Awe, I'm sorry to hear that. How many covers did you make?
Before the post on how to make collar covers, I was throwing away the left over material. oops. Now I have a whole bag of collar covers and collar bows. Another thing, how can you do 12 dogs a day?????? I did 7 saturday and it almost killed me.

I would rather do them all in one day. She gets an hourly rate and it takes me about 8-9 hours. I do them 2 at a time. So, while I am hving one the other is wrapped in towels. Just easier. there are 12 of them. All different breeds.

Because she has so many dogs you may want to make a cancelation penalty for her, I can understand her canceling but you might want to ask for 48 hrs or she has to pay for half the day.

The owner should have given you a gratuity. She knows it's your entire day. I would definately break them up after this. Explain to her that it is too stressful if she needs to reschedule, which you understand her reason for doing it, but it still cost you lots of $.

                      meesh,
don't worry about jury duty. one of the outs are if you are a business owner and no employees. i just got my notice and checked off the right box and sent it back to them. for the last 20 years, i have managed to get "selected" for jury duty every other year.

JURY DUTY In California is a crock in big letters. There is no way out check the self employed box, they don't care. Child care they don't care. The question is: Who wants to be judged by 12 people that could not get out of jury service?

Regarding the client with 12 dogs, ask for a key, take them from the yard, get there earlier before she leaves, I would try anything to get those dogs in, so as not to have a loss day. If this was my client I would ask, how early could I be there, 5am- 6am. IMO I would look at it as bending over for a great client.

It isn't easy here either to get out of it...self employed, being the sole wage earner for your family...none of that matters. Interestingly, they will excuse you (if there are enough potential candidates left) if you have nonrefundable, paid for airline tickets/vacation plans that fall within the dates possible for the trial to extend over. So...if my business is closed down for a week with me not making any money that I need to live on that is fine, but God forbid I miss my trip to disney land! LOL, just shows you nothing is perfect. Mercifully for me, a last minute plea bargain got me out of being juror number 5 on a trial expected to last until friday! It sounded really interesting, and i was kind of torn actually...but i could not reschedule all those appts between now and when i go to new york week after next, so it all worked out well.

She was leaving at 7 am. I asked her to call me when she got home so we could get it figured out when I should come. But, I did not hear from her. I will not call either cauz the went for Annual and they found a tumor of sorts. I don't want to call and say Hey what about me when maybe she got bad news or something. I will wait it out. I am just hoping she is ok. She is a really nice lady. Most of these dogs she was fostering and then the rescue went out of business and she kept all the dogs so they would have a home. She takes really good care of them and they all live in the house. I could not get a key cauz Norman the Fila won't let me in unless she say's Norman. Lisa is here come and say Hello. I don't want to piss Norman off.
