  • UGH! I hate winter

Guess I will be rescheduling at least tomorrow mornings appts. It is snowing like crazy here. In 1 hr we have over 1/2 inch. My drive is a steep and I am not going to even try to pull my trailer out with snow on it.

I pray, every day that it won't snow the next day. I really don't know what I'd do, since I've been overbooking. I guess I'd have to work Sunday to make it up. I have to admit, though, I need some time off, so a little snow forcing me to do so might be a welcome treat. It's suppose to be 0 degrees here tonight.

Any chance that you'll be able to go out later in the day?

Tell me about it! Last week I had to cancel almost a weeks worth of work because of all the ice and then we got snow. I live out in the country and had one heck of a time getting my van out of our steep driveway. After it was finally out, I asked my brother in law if I could park it at his house in town. No problem he says, but BIG problem for his neighbor that thinks he owns the strret and gave me a hard time about the van being there. Long story short, I bought two big bags of ice melt, spread it all over my driveway, took the van back home and then pray each morning that the van will make it to the top of the hill. Hang in there, spring is coming one of these days!

Oh, I'm right on top of it! The van is plugged in, the water heater is on, the ceramic heater is on, and the furnace is on as a backup. I filled my water tonight when I got home (I'm not looking forward to doing that tomorrow since my faucet is outside, lol!). I have one of those clocks that reads temperature and I have the other part in the van, so I know, at all times, what the temperature is inside the van). Brrrrrrrrr.....

I told myself that I would only book 4 days a week during January and part of February so I would have a place to rebook, but, nope, I've booked 6 days the last couple of weeks....Guess I don't feel comfortable enough to give up booking new clients.

That is a GREAT idea. I will have to go get me one of them.

I'm formerly a Massachusetts gal now in northern Virginia, so the winters here are mostly piece of cake ... still, I missed a day on Monday because of the ice and the other people 'round here just can't drive at all in the littlest snow and I fear being hit. It's taken me all week but by tomorrow (Fri) I'll have caught up on all the grooms ... been four very long days, adding an extra dog or two to each one, but I didn't miss a dime and won't have to work the weekend.

I had been trying to leave some gaps in my schedule in the winter, but the weather had been freakishly mild and I started to let myself get overbooked again, but now it looks like we've finally got winter!

That is a great idea about monitoring the temp of the van ... I already keep myself up all night fretting about things though! I can just see myself watching the temp all night! If we had worse winters here though I think I would do that too!

I guess I should quit complaining about the 30 degree mornings were having. EW snow.
Well Lisa, now you can hit that 1000 mark..

YUP. Cauz I rescheduled all my appts for today. I am NOT shoveling my driveway. The roads are fine, but I am not shoveling. I have enough back problems.

OK...changed my mind...I'm joining you..I hate winter, too. Today I discovered something I didn't think about and haven't experienced. I finished grooming 3 bichons and went to leave, got in the cab, and fuond that the windows had a sheet of ice on them, on the inside! I had the door closed from the grooming area to the cab to keep out the hair, but moisture from the bath got on them. So, I sat there for about 10 minutes waiting for them to defrost. grrrrr....

Then, the water situation. I have to fill from an outside tap, which until today was not a problem. Well, of course, the faucet was frozen. I had carried the hose outside to fill, but by the time I got the faucet running the water that was still left in the house from yesterday was frozen, so I had to go inside and thaw it out. I must have gone in and out of the house about 8 times tonight, and it is freakin' cold!.

I ran the anti-freeze through the pipes tonight, just to be safe. I have an 8 'clock appt tomorrow and don't want to have any problems. (of course the heaters and furnace would have to fail to have one.)
