$8300 sounds awful steep.... It's too bad you're not in the Kansas City area or I'd ask my brother in law for a referral for ya. He's a mechanic and works closely with some body shops, as well.... As we all know, a lot of times, BOTH body and engine damage occur in an accident....
He's from CT, but he's been here for 10 years, so I doubt he has any connections there anymore....

WOW! I would get a second and third opinion! 8300? Is your insurance going to cover any of it? Did you get the name of the truck company that hit you? If anything you could at least bring it to thier attention. I mean the driver could have been DUI or something! I am so sorry for you. Hope it gets resolved soon!

Actually all it costs you is your deductable. If you have insurance they pay all but that. I've been in the bodyshop business before, and things cost a lot more than you think. And, is there structural damage not visible. Also, once the vehicle is torn down more damage could be found and YOUR insurance company would have to come up with more money(supplement check). So for heavens sake, don't get an insurance check, cash it , and try to get it done somewhere cheaply, if you do and they find more damage, NO SUPPLEMENT from your insurance. You would have to fork over your own $, and $1,500+ more damage found doesn't take a lot.

Ouch but that looks about right.. You have alot of little crinkles, and a bent up door frame and door. You have a bent up top frame with is attached to your extended top. So they will have to remove the dents, straight out the top rail ( which they may have to remove your top) Then prime and paint, plus what ever else thats on the inside... Thats if the can save the door.. Yep that 8500.. sounds right, if not cheap really...

I know even if you get a nice scratch on the paint, that can cost up to a thousand dollars to get fixed on some vehicles. It looks like the body of the van was damaged, the door and the topper. All those things are expensive to fix. Then you have to figure out what a body shop makes per hour. It can be very costly. I had a deer slam into the side of my pick up truck this past spring and a body shop wanted over a grand just to pull the dent out. That wasn't even to make it look pretty again. Now I just want to put a deer decal with a red line through it on the dent. lol
