My FIL has been running a check/cash only business for 20+ years and has never had a audit. If you are trying to hide money and start living outside your "means" (at least what "means" you are showing on paper) that's when the IRS gets suspicious. If you have a good Accountant and aren't trying to hide money you won't have a problem. I've been running my own Home Based business for 5 years and no problems so far. The IRS knows that for many small businesses using a CC reader just doesn't pay. Especially with things like google wallet, apple pay, and venmo out there now. As long as you are being honest with your business dealings/taxes you've got nothing to fear. Can't blame you for getting rid of the reader. Run your business the way you want to. IMO it gets too complicated to charge a fee for credit cards. If your business is small enough that you need to charge a fee then I'd say you don't really need a reader.

I love not having it! I have had no problems and customers haven't minded once they got use to it.

Wonderful. I think most people who frequent single groomer run shops understand a cash only business. Today I paid my business tax receipt and of course the good ole government charges a convenience fee for debit or credit card use. No surprise there, oh the irony.

Yep, that is right. I've heard you pay your taxes with a credit card and you get an extra charge. So, I just write Em a check. Knock on wood, but I've been in business since November 2002, taking check and cash only, with no problems.

I love not handling all the cash and using my reader. Without going to the bank all the funds show up the next day in my account. Why? Many of my customers say they love not handling cash and feel insecure carrying cash. Debit cards are safer than cash for them.

I am in a suburban/rural area, and do not take plastic. I have toyed with the idea but my customers don't seem to mind. And yesterday I went to bank with this amazing pile of $20's, $10's, and a crisp $100 bill. Sat here like Ebenezer Scrooge for quite a while, just counting them over and over and grinning from ear to ear. I absolutely love the tactile reward of my hard work.
