Thank you J3! Now for the next question. Anyone happen to know a number for this company? I bought them at a show and there isn't a number on the case. I have looked through several of my cataloges and haven't seen this brand in any of them. Haven't had any luck w/google cause my stupid computer throws me off the net whenever I try to do a search.......can you say virus.....ugh!!

If you have any doubt you should send them in. The company should be able to evaluate them and see what they need. If your sharpener works on them there is a good chance they will not be returned or exchanged when he/she is done.

    May be a factory defect?

I have a pair of Geib Gator Thinners that are defective. My friend Bev bought them.noticed that they had little metal shavings chipping off,and did not work well at all,and stuck them in a drawer instead of sending them back. My sharpener Adam's New Edge has tried to fix them twice, and they still don't want to work. It is a shame casue normally these would be excellent little thinners. Bev should have sent them right back, instead of getting p.o.'ed and putting them away.

I have no opinion on these shears, but I couldn't stand to have you posting here with no responses at all. Could you call the manufacturer and see what they say? Maybe they will replace your "lemon" with the workhorse of your dreams!

    Onyx shears help!!!! Opinions??????

I bought myself a pair of 8 1/2 Onyx straights at the dog show that was here 2 wks ago. They seemed like they would be a good "work horse" shear to use on thick or heavy coats. They are a tad bit heavier than my other shears, but not enough to really matter.

I have to say that I am rather disappointed in them. Even though they have the tension adjuster, I just can't get them to work the way I want. In order to get them to cut well I have set the tension so tight that it tires my hand out easily. If I set the tension to where my hand doesn't tire they tend to grab. I have tried using extra shear oil on them to try to work the kinks out w/no success.

Do you think they just need to be sent to my sharpener or do you think I bought **** shears? I had never even heard of Onyx before. The booth where I bought them also sold CC merchandise and another well known groomers line (Jay Scruggs I think.....not positive). They were $120 shears so I realize they aren't "top of the line", but for that money I do expect a decent work horse shear.

Any feedback or opinions will be MUCH appreciated!!!!!
