• Refurbish old Oster clippers or buy something else?

My 20 year old Oster single speed Golden A5's just quit running. I know that Oster has a refurbish service for only $60 plus shipping it to them. This sounds like a good deal but I was wondering if I should take that money and apply to a new clipper instead. Maybe a different brand that uses the Oster blades? I also have a Speed Feed which I use for the face and feet work. Most of my grooming is on a Standard Poodle with a very full coat.

Any advice is really welcome!

After 20 years I think you need a new clipper! But, I've been told the clippers today are not made like they were 20 years ago, so consider that.

My work just sent in some clippers to have them refurbished. But honestly they still don't work that well. So they spent all that money and we ended having to buy new clippers in the end.

You need to treat yourself to a new pair a clippers for sure!!! I love the Andis clippers with the lights. Cant remeber the exact name but I do love them, especially for black or dark colored dogs.

Thanks all for the input! I've decided that new clippers it is!

One fear I had was that the refurbished wouldn't end up like they were originally (cheaper insides).

Right now, I'm sorta leaning towards either the Wahl KM2 or Andis AGC (Super??) 2-speed clipper. One thing I really hated about the old Oster was the weight and square body. So probably anything will be an improvement on that aspect.

Or maybe the Switchblade ???

Well, here is a vote against the Switchblade. They are LOUD! I also bought mine supposedly after the solved the problem with the cord. So now they are having problems with the cord and they are past the warranty. I really like the other Wahl clippers but I would stay away from the Switchblade.

oh **** -really? bummer.I love the small dip in the handle.it fits my small hand so nicely.
I opened a box to feel at petsmart (SHHHHHH) so I never got to hear them.
oh well thank you for passing that along.I would have been pissed after spending that much on something then hating it.

I'm glad to hear that you are going for a new pair of clippers. You will enjoy not having so much heat and weight in your hands while grooming. I've been enjoying the new 5 speed Andis. It's nice for getting a really smooth finish and they're light.

I ended up ordering the Wahl KM-2. I think I'm going to be very happy to have less heat (had to change blades constantly before). Plus they look like they'll be easier to hold.

I don't think they're the lightest I could have gotten but after the Oster's I'm sure they'll feel great.

Thanks for everyone's help!
