  • Groomer's Mud Hand Cream?

Has anyone tried this product (on Show Seasons site). I ask not just for myself...but my husband is an auto detailer (we joke we both are responsible for keeping clean and shiny client's most precious possessions) and his hands are TERRIBLE. They are super crunchy, cracking to the point of bleeding and calloused. They are at the point where they don't come visibly clean...the cracks harbor dark dirt...even with scrubbing, since they are so dry it doesn't have a soft/pliable enough surface to get them clean. He has tried using gloves but they aren't always an option... the hot weather here in Florida makes his hands super grody sweaty and he feels like he can't work comfortably in them.

For now we've gone old school and he sleeps with Bag Balm slathered on with socks put on overnight...it helps but it is only a nighttime regime... Trying to find something to use during the day that you can put on and it helps to work while out and about. Ideas?

    Thanks!

I haven't tried that stuff but Kettle Care stuff is amazing for this, either the workers creme or the firefighters cream would probably do wonders for his hands. I used them regularly when I did battle bots and my hands got beat up and started to crack from metal work and welding. The herbal aide creme is my friend for less severe dry hands and skin. Everything I have tried by them has worked wonderfully.

try aveena hand cream (dont reach for the other stuff) it smells like peppermint..

its the only thing i use and it helps out... alot... since i bathe without gloves.. and kelco seems really harsh on my hands..

it works just tell him to apply it everytime he washes his hands for a while until it gets better

Have you tried using a sugar treatment to get the dead skin off? It will also bring down inflammation a bit. Ponds cold cream has eucalyptus in it which is an anti-inflammatory.

I have it! I like it. It's hard for me to use during the day though, since it makes my hands greasy and I don't like touching dogs cuz then it makes them greasy. I doubt your hubby will have that problem though. LOL. It's a good cream, but I'd still keep up the night regime.

Have you tried parafin treatments? You can get pretty cheap machines and Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc. That's what has helped me the most.

I agree w/SnP! Do a good sugar scrub to exfoliate. Have him rub Crisco thoroughly on his hands for a few minutes. Add some sugar and soap and continue rubbing well for a few minutes. Get the water running as hot as he can take (not to burn though!) and continue rubbing as he rinses. Do this right before bed time and then use your thick lotion of choice and SLATHER it on then cover it up w/ socks or white cotton gloves. He could probably even add sugar to the lotion to soak in over night for added healing properties.

Is he also using lotion during the day? He should try to several times a day. I usually apply lotion after I bathe when my hands are still slightly damp. I rub it in really well and then when I am blowdrying a dog the heat seems to help sink the lotion deep in my skin.

I have that cream. It has a funny smell. You might it or hate it or hate. I'm not sure.

What saves me is a paraffin bath thingy, where you dip your hands. I wrote about it on my blog. You put cream on your hands and dip your hands in the melted paraffin five times. Your hands come out like butter. They have them in the nail salons. You can buy one in Bed Bath & Beyond for about $30.00.Doesn't sound very manly I know but it's fantastic because my skin is very dry. It's relaxing too. My hubby uses it too. In the winter we use it once a week. We leave it plugged in all the time so it's always ready.

This may sound stupid, but I wonder if those parrafin thingy's could be used in grooming to help w/dry, cracked paw pads.
