  • Pompadour????

Ok I just had a lady call me that I did her Toy Poodle yesterday and she told me it is the best she has ever seen its Pompadour! I looked it up on the net and it keeps talking about Elvis' haircut or hair pieces from the 1950's. I am taking it she meant the Head??? Maybe this is a common term but I have never heard anyone say it.

    Bet the topknot

Likely having had a groomer that used snap on or blade on the head. Hopefully not shaved due to mats.
Money will buy you a pretty good dog but it won't buy the wag of it's tail.

Now that's a term I haven't heard for a few years. Lots of people used to call top knots pompadour, but that went out with poodle feet shaved to the knee! LOL

Thanks. I figured it was but had never heard that one before. I asked my mom too and she said that is what they always called the top knot when she had poodles 30 years ago! At least I know now.

                  Sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SORRY!!!!!! I didn't mean it like that! I am 32 and have been grooming a short time. I had to laugh though about the High Waters. The poodle she had when I was born had high waters! I just said to her not long ago while looking at a picture of her poodle that if I did a poodle feet/legs like that noone would come back to me. She said that was the way they did them back then.

Geez, now I feel old, too Sheila. A 32 year old groomer has to ask her MOM about high water feet and pompadours. ha ha Guess I am old. PetsRus, you were in kindergarten when I started grooming. boo hoo and LOL Grooming has been very kind to me. Not too many people have done the same thing for so long and STILL enjoy every day. Come to think of it, not too many people enjoy their jobs, period!! We are a lucky bunch.

I'm not feeling old. Just mature, like a fine wine. LOL

But PetsRus, you weren't even born when I started grooming. Oh yes, I remember pompadours...on people heads! I also remember the original Mickey Mouse Club, jitterbugging, cruising the gut, and racing for pinks.

                      Aaaah. Those were the days.

I didn't have a poodle skirt, but my older sisters did. And the big, ruffled petticoats, too. My friends and I had a lot of fun stealing their petticoats to play dress-up, or for our Halloween costumes.

My sisters are also the ones who taught me to jitterbug (they needed a partner to practice with) and the stroll, and the Madison, and later, we all learned to do the twist.

And how could I have forgotten saddle shoes. EVERYONE had saddle shoes.

Ok - I just had to post a pic of 1 of my daughters a few years back dressed in her poodle outfit for Halloween. Crazy how an era later can become a costume - but for months before and after Halloween that year my daughter was doing the twist and the jitterbug...She kept saying I wish this was the 60's!!

It is a very old 1800s early 1900s term, also hat.
