  • Things to NEVER Use in a Grooming Business

I think we all know carpeting is a top of the list item. But I was at a new friend's shop today and she had Levolor blinds that came with. Hair was about really 1/8 thick. She said they came with the place and landlord says they stay. She only puts them down when the afternoon sun hits the window and she has to do them a few times a month. Add blinds to the list, anyone else?

Ceiling fans, may feel cool but I worked in a shop with one. Same thing built up tons of hair and if you haven't cleaned the blades and turn it on, snowing hair.

Low shelving for retail items in the front area. Either the male dogs will target them, or if treats, carry them off home.

Plate glass windows without some protection in front of them. Some of you have heard the story about the most expensive, at least at the time, dog accident that took more than one million dollars to settle by the insurance company. The dog (saw something out the plate glass window) and bolted through a plate glass window escaping the shop and into traffic causing a multiple car accident.

I was just thinking of this!

And yet I have curtains. They are only on tension rods and super easy to take down, but still kind of a PITA. I have them only because I have found blinds to be even more cumbersome and annoying to clean. I think when I replace my curtains, I'm going to replace them with decorative shower curtains just for the (theoretically) easy hose-off factor.

Know what I really want but think it would be a bad idea as far as collecting hair? A fancy-pants, hoity-toity, dangly chandelier. If I ever feel like I don't have enough to do and just want to invent chores for kicks and grins, I'm going to have one.

My last boss (from a non-grooming background) thought that large wire wall grids to hang hooks and baskets from would be a good idea all over the bathing area! Yeah...not so much!

Flypaper, no kidding. Looked like holiday garlands of fur.

Chandeliers, like in the lobby of retail. Our place came with one, hair and dust collector and so much to clean.

My curtains are made from fabric shower curtains so no hair sticks. Plants, real or fake, are dust and hair collectors. Also too much clutter on the walls and counters.
