  • I feel bad for her

So today a couple brought in what they claim to be a chihuahua x poodle mix. The dog just didn't look right... It had gross crusty stuff in its ears and it was a weird yellow colour, it's butt had **** and more yellow crusty stuff all over it and around it, and it's paws were all deformed and red and it didn't actually have toes but the nails were digging into the pads. Oh and it's face was terrible regarding tears and more of that weird yellow crusty stuff. It also barely had any hair in some places and bled very easily. I did the best I could, but I'm just wondering what could be wrong with the dog?

Sever allergies with possible fungal infection. Likely diet is the culprit, thats why you see the crusty stuff around the anus.

Yep this is the type that over weeks the mud baths have entirely turned around as stated in my other messages but diet must be addressed, usually going grain free at minimum. Sometimes there are emotional issues going on in families so bad they affect pet health. Sometimes even if the husband or wife died or is dying I have seen terrible stress. In the meantime even the first mud bath helped, but so important to do it right, and twice a week to start. I have had dogs like this totally turn around within 12 weeks to 16 weeks as if they were never plagued with terrible yeast. I would use the Soothe version, it is gentler. Also snacks, some people go grain free and give horrible snacks / treats and think they don't count. They do!

I wanted to tell the owners but they barely spoke any english and they barely understood me when I was telling them the price... so I guess I can't really do much about it, huh?

Do what Cockerlvr said but mail it to them ASAP. That poor little thing is only going to get worse unless they start treatment soon.

Story : I had a little one like that that the owners only treated some of the time. When the dog first came to me it's feet were so bad they bled when touched. (Fortunately the pets first visit was a day when we were ALL frustrated by ignorant owners and our head doctor absolutely gold the owner that the dog was to be treated or shed report her for abuse - posted a heavy handed hard ball ). Sweet dog finally got healed up and is still a sweetie ( owners are still jerks - only some things are curable )

Oh wow I'm glad the dog is better! & I would mail it to them but I can't understand their handwriting .... Which I guess is my fault. I think the dog was born in 2001 which makes me feel even worse because it has probably been like that way its whole life. She seemed nervous when the owners dropped her off but she just stood perfectly still when I was doing the nails and haircut and everything else. I think once I got the nails out of her pads she felt a lot better and seemed to be less sad / in pain. The bath wasn't something she was too crazy about but I kept petting her and gently massaging the shampoo and she calmed down quite a bit so hopefully I made her feel a little better

I already seen this on high allergic dogs, bacteria or very very stressed dogs! The hardest part is when you explain the owners, why the dog smells so bad all the time and why they should take him to the vet and they don't.

Use to get a lot of cocker spaniels like that.

Brought them in so they look better for the vet visit.
