  • 3 year old drank shear oil!!!!

My nose got into one of my Kenchii shear cases, which are usually empty so I wasn't to concerned, but one still had the little tube of shear oil still in it. I don't think he really ingested much as the tube is still pretty full, but what get's my goat is I couldn't find a MSDS online for shear oil. Plus even if I did I had no clue who the manufacturer was. I called Kenchii and the women said they had NO MSDS ON FILE AND DID NOT KNOW THE MANUFACTURER!!! She didn't even know what a MSDS was! I had to tell her a Material safety data sheet and that they were breaking OSHA laws by not having that available.
To top it off she said to look up clipper oil as they were basically the same thing! They shouldn't be! Wahl Clipper oil MSDS said there should be no real concern and to not induce vomiting or anything like that. I really think he will be fine as I said I really don't think he ingested much. A couple drops at best, but the point is, what if he did? One, yes I need to be more careful about where my stuff is; and two, Kenchii needs to start labeling their oil and having MSDS readily available with a trained and knowledgeable staff!

Just did a quick search.....clipper blade oil and shear oil is the same thing.....basically mineral oil. They should have had a sheet of ingredients for you, I do agree. He should be fine with only a couple of drops.....whole bottle would make him clear his bowels.
Ain't always easy to stand up for what is right.

What I do not understand is we are always told NOT to use clipper oil on shears as it will corrosive to the ring in the pivot, but if it's the same thing why do they tell us this?
"Clipper oil is not recommended because it could be detrimental to the rubber/nylon parts of the pivot, tends to attract dirt, and could actually shorten the life of your scissors." (http://www.precisionsharpening.net/p...nt_of_scissors)

Basically the same but I use clipper oil to help clean the blades and shear oil on the pivot. As for next game a few drops you are s do mutely correct - there should be a safety listing for all our products, we do deal with living beings.

I was always taught that clipper oil has a few additives to reduce heat and friction that shear oil doesn't have. Over time, these additives can dissolve the washers in your pivot point.
