FITCHBURG (WKOW) – A Fitchburg dog groomer is pulling out all the stops to make sure some local dogs are ready to try to replace Jimmy the Groundhog for Sun Prairie's annual Groundhog Day celebration.
Deb Compton has been grooming dogs for the past 12 years but got into the world of what's called creative grooming four years ago. She says that is where groomers transform dogs and other animals into different creatures by cutting and even dying parts of their fur.
27 News caught up with Compton on Wednesday at “In the Dogz House” in Fitchburg, where she was working on a dog named Sam. She says she's groomed him for a few years, but this was the first time she's transformed him into an animal after his owner said he was a candidate for Sun Prairie's contest to find an understudy for Jimmy the Groundhog.
“He's a really good dog to work on,” Compton said about Sam. “So I was pleased that he was available.”
