A car was driven into a Waterloo pet grooming salon and allegedly set on fire.

The shop front of Royal Paws, on Oxford Road, was destroyed in the blaze where the shell of a Volvo S6 was left a smoking wreck.

Witnesses said the green car was set alight by a man who then abandoned it, reportedly fleeing on the back of a waiting motorcycle in the direction of South Road, at around 7.30pm tonight.

Police were trying to recover the Volvo for forensic examination by crime scene investigators after the blaze was put out by firefighters.

A flat above the shop was also damaged in the blast which caused “severe” structural damage, according Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

No one is believed to have been injured in the fire............................
