I had another crotchitty client yesterday who brought in a cocka-poo very specific she was. The dog was way overgrown and she admitted that it had'nt been groomed in four months, she was a new client that came from another shop and very specific. I really wanted to impress this woman because she "knew all about grooming" even though the only job she ever had was probably a desk job for some big corp. Anyways lol the dog look beautiful I did it with a 3F because she wanted it left a little longer did a nice sanitary with a 10. Then it happened!! I was touching up an area under the neck i was alittle tired it was my last dog of the day so I was kinda spacing I brought my clippers down one strip when --What the Heck I had forgot to switch my 10 back to my 3!! Well there was no covering up that instantly I wen tinto defense mode the woman shows up she says her dog looks beautiful until she lifted up its chin what is this she says pointing to the very obvious bald strip. I am not a good liar i said well your dog has a very large cowlick there and the hair doesnt lay straight in that area and gave her my best innocent smile. It worked!! Whew

I've done that before. Most memorable was a few weeks ago. When I took what I thought was a comb attatchment down the front leg of the dog. OOPS it was a 10. Looks like the dog was prepped for an IV. Luckily it was a good client and she understood! When I start making stupid mistakes like this.... I know its time for a day off!!!

I did that with a 15 yesterday when it should have been a 4, on the top of the head. Not too much damage done, just as I put it down to the head I noticed it wasn't the right blade!!!! That was a close one, new client too.

Been there, done that. I try to be honest about it. Point it out and say "See that? That is a mistake." and explain what happened, assuring them that it's not a common occurance, and won't happen again. Haven't had anyone kick up a fuss. Yet, lol.

Like Helly, I would have just told the woman the truth. If she can't accept that you make mistakes, she's not a client you want. I think she's going to wonder why the strip wasn't there before, or if you do the dog again, why isn't it there again? Oh well, what's done is done. I hate it when I boo boo like that. It's just the dumbest little thing, but it makes a huuuge difference, doesn't it?

I always always always look at my blade before cutting anything. Even if I just set it down to answer the phone. This is how I was taught. Or better yet, it was drilled into me by the groomer I was apprenticing with. It had to be drilled into me.
Im surprised she didnt kick me out of her shop after the first dozen times I took a 40 to a dogs back. I think my learning experience was just as stressful on her as it was on me.
