  • Return of an older client

I was grooming this morning (only one dog for the day) when one of my older clients that I hadn't heard from for at least 7 months calls. She was wanting her dog (Shih Tzu) groomed, whenever I had the time, no pressure to get him in now. I told her I could actually do him at 10:30 this morning if that would work for her. She was so excited. She arrives right on time. The dog has been to another groomer, so he isn't a mess. She had taken him in for his shots and what not and decided to have him groomed too, no big deal she thought. Well she said the poor guy came back with razor burns on his face. She wasn't happy and decided not to do that again. She was just so happy with the job I did, and he was as good as gold. She said when Buddy gets groomed he only has one groomer now, ME!!! Made my day, and she learned a lesson.......It is a big deal who grooms her little Buddy.

Great Job, always makes you feel good when clients decide you are the best groomer for them

Yes, sometimes I'm almost happy when they try another groomer. Then they realize how truly special you are, and you have a very loyal client who will toot your horn to all her friends!

      Groom on!!!

I'm always happy when they come back, but sometimes you end up with a goofy-looking dog with lots of hair missing in the wrong places and other stuff to fix when they return from going someplsce else or trying to give them a trim at home. Other than that, it feels good when they return and they're happy!

I had one yesterday, and one today, that did the same thing. Both admitted that they had go someplace else because it was closer and it was a mistake. I am always glad to hear that. It seems that when you start the dogs off as puppies into adults, the people really don't know the difference untill they try another groomer. I don't think these people with pups that you have started really respect you till they try somewhere else.

What was bad is that the young yorky that I did a hand scissor teddy bear on I could hardly touch her feet with the clippers. I had to run the clippers with just the vibration on them all until she realized it wasn't going to hurt her. I never had a problem with her feet before.

Yup, nothing like feeling special and appreciated! A customer that I groomed on thursday has a little Peek and a Shih. A few months ago I realized that I had not seen them in a while, so I called to make sure everything was okay. She was quiet on the phone for a minute (which worried me..lol) then she said, I have been taking Max and Abby somewhere else because they are so close. Will you PLEASE take me back as a client!!! lol I guess she thought I was going to boot her out since she "cheated" on me. She said she didn't care if I moved and she had to drive for an hour, no one else was grooming her babies!

Talk about getting a big head....lol

              That's Neat!

In my old business, these were some of my best clients. They really appreciate you when they have tried someone else and then decide to come back. This is why it's a good idea to contact a client that stops comming in with a little note reminding them that you miss them and you'd still like to see them so that they feel comfortable comming back.

When I was on maternity leave the other groomer in the shop groomed one of my bichon clients. Nothing fancy just a #4 and scissored legs. Well when I came back she stopped in with a card. It basically said she really appreciates how I groom her dog and the no one but me will be doing it, and there was a 50.00 gift card. Very nice of her, too bad I can't stand the dog.

I just had the same thing happen the other day. One of my customers has a hard to handle wheaten poo that I do and they got a bichon a few months ago. Well I was thinking it had been a long time since they got the bichon and I hadn't groomed it. Well she called a week or so ago and I did her now 6month old bichon on Wed. She said her daughter took it somewhere else and they shaved her bald, but left all of the hair on her head. Now she definatly doesn't have the nice bichon hair and could be mistaken for a maltese because of her ****** coat but I was able to make her look pretty bichonish, lol. Her owner was thrilled and said "see this is how you're suppossed to look". She was like how do you do that!!!! Now they appreciate my grooming even more.

I've had many of those lately (thanks, in part, to some really terrible groomers around my area lol but I'd like to think I'm just that good ... makes me feel better).

Yes it really does make ya feel better. I think I'm going to have to call some of my clients that I haven't seen in a while and see if they're ready to come back to me. I want to hear those words "nobody else will ever groom fifi again, just you" !!!!
