  • Black Dogs

Ok, this has bugged me for a long time and have never thought to ask. So I was doing my favorite dog today. Pepper a salt and pepper (hence her name) Aussie mix.

Does anyone know why black dogs smell so bad when they get wet?

I haven't ever notice my black St. Poo smelling bad when she gets wet. Maybe it's just the dog you are bathing.

Man and I thought that it was just my imagination. My husband keeps telling me I'm nuts but I swear they smell different

LOL I never noticed black dogs having a different odor then other dogs.

I DO notice that I have the hardest time doing detail work on black dogs. I have a really hard time seeing them. I wonder if this means I need glasses or if something is wrong with my eyes.

I haven't noticed a different smell on ALL black dogs but I do have a few extra stinky black ones. 2 of them are Shih-tzus. They seem to be more dandery too, unless you can just see it better on the black fur. I have tried a dark coat shampoo but it didn't seem to make a difference.

hmm I didn't really think to much about it, but now that you mention it one of our dogs is black and she has a tendcy to get smelly faster than the others. I just figured it was because she's a senior

I think they smell different but all the ones I get...tend to have a almost sweet smell when they are wet...unless you leave them wet for a while then they get that doggy smell...but right during a bath minus the shampoo smell...they do smell different but I like it.

It isn't gross at all on the ones I noticed. I also noticed it was more on my black poodles than anything.

I have to say that the black poodles I do seem to have a "greasier" smell to them than the other ones I do. I thought it was just my imagination, too.
don't find yourself up a creek without a poodle.

Yeah, it's not all black dogs, but all my black Labs smell and some Shih Tzu's. Especially Cockers, of course I can always smell the Cockers ears too and it smells the same.

Can we talk about frito feet now? From my own personal "stash" at home, one of my dogs has BAD frito feet, two have sweet buttered popcorn feet, and one has no stink feet.

LOl, nothing like little feet that smell like stale corn chips! Mine get that way when they haven't been bathed in a while, I think keeping their feets nice and shaved helps keep them smelling fresher longer.
