White/Sliver Schn

Here is the picture of the Schn. I groom that I say is white but vet says silver. Owner wanted very short for summer.
What do you all think white or silver? I have also heard that if they are white their skin is pink and if they are sivler their skin is black/gray. Anyone else heard that?

This was the first time I had ever groomed this girl and she had never had the correct angle/pattern on her legs. She does now it just doesn't show up in the picture. It looks like it is straight across but it really isn't. Not that I am a Schn. expert but in the before picture you can kinda tell that the line was straight across and also she had always had a visor instead on eyebrows.

I've always heard them called "White" schnauzers, and all of those that I've groomed have had purple skin. Never saw one with pink skin.

I groom a white schnauzer and his skin is light grey...he also has black eyeliner lol hes the sweetest guy in the world, but awful coat. semi waves and very fine in texture..they keep him in a schn trim with a 1c on legs and skirt...thank god! lol

well ive heard that white horses arent really white...they are actually a light light silver color! dont know if thats true or not...
but that dog is DEFINATELY white! its the color of snow! how can it be silver!

I may not be right with this but I used to groom a couple. One had white fur but when it was shaved it became silver and had gray skin. So I assume that is a silver Schnauzer. I groomed another white one that was white thru and thru and still had gray skin, but a lighter color..

Best thing is to contact a breeder (a rep one) and ask them.

The only thing I can think of is the fact that white schnauzers aren't 'allowed' so maybe people started registering them as silver?

I saw platinum.

It is a toss up, because I can't be there in person. The sunlight makes it look platinum to me. If you had a salt & pepper on the table with her you could check the brow color on each. The salt & pepper one would have that light platinum white for brows, beard and legs. If hers matched that, she is silver platinum. It is like hershey brown or chocolate brown; both brown with little difference.(Brown not referring to schnauzers) BTW, many years back, more than 30, there was a line of mini schnauzers that were always very silvery. If this little girl were handstripped, or had a bald hot spot section, you would see her real fur color appear. Because she is clippered, as white as she is, she is getting whiter with no undercoat. You didn't mention her skin color. My whites have dark gray skin, thin coat and hard to make the trim look nice,cuz skin shows thru. I baby powder em to even it out.

Her skin color is mostly pink with a few spots that are gray. Just look at those ears very pink. Her brows are white as is the rest of her. Her coat is very thin and wavy as you can see in picture #1. It really doesn't matter to me if she is white or silver her owner was just VERY DEFENSIVE when she walk in and I said "oh she is white how cute".

Since whites are sooo popular these days, and now the chocolate? It is likely she is white. I do think the white schnauzers are a dif white than a maltese white color or a westie. It has a platinum tone to it. Usually shines more than other white dogs.IMO

There seems to be a lot of this color around here, have I been offending clients when I say, awe...you have a beautiful white schnzr? I groom two of them both have dark skin.

I'm say white. I owned a white schnauzer and her skin was pink and very sensitive. If you look at a silver/gray schnauzer the color is completely different, nothing to do with skin color. I never registered Molly with the AKC as there was no white designation--but if you send the AKC pictures, they will register them white. It just seemed like too much trouble and she was just a pet anyway. It's easier to register the closest color. Breeders with merle pomeranians have the same problem and may are being registered as silver/black parti's or sable/orange parti's. It really messes up the stud book.

I was told that "silver" sch's are only salt and peppers that have been clippered. The salt and peppers we have that have been clipped all turn silver and the blacks all turn dark gray. Neither silver nor white are allowed in the ring. Only salt and pepper, black and silver and black. At least that's what my boss tells me and she shows them.
