Don't know how true it is, but I have heard that the law was put into effect because of people buying chicks, rabbits, etc. around times such as Easter for gifts.

Geez...I knew you couldn't color in Florida, but I guess I didn't realize I would be a criminal if I brought my poodle with me, for vacation, with blue ears.

Yes, it was passed as a law back when i was a kid. The hip thing was to color Bunnies and Chicks at Easter time as a ploy to sell more. Then when the "cute" colors faded we were over run with wild chickens, ducks and rabbits.

Now, honestly... it isn't regularly enforced and YES I have dyed the occassional dog for a client (especially in Blue & Orange before a Gators game). But, do we advertise it... no.

I've never heard of this before... I thought it was a joke at first. I've never colored a dog before and I'm not sure if I'd ever want to, but I guess it's good to know about.

              Thanks for the help GR

I actually made some calls today & long story short - fat chance of getting it removed, ammended, etc....
They won't even be considering anything for about 11 months.

I am still going to try.

They have this same law in SC. My friend told me about it after I "stencled" another friends dog and sent picts of it on the internet and emails. Oh No!! They might put me in the BIG HOUSE!!!! Can you imagine that conversation while I am chatting w/my cell mate Big Bad Bertha. "so what are you in for"? lol

I am not sure, but you would think that this is one of those laws rarely enforced EXCEPT for the in the case of dying animals for sale (like bunnies, chicks etc). I didn't even see any mention of dogs or cats, and don't they have creative grooming competitions in Florida and SC?
