  • Need Advice

First off want to say hello to all. I've been a lurker for some time know and want to thank you all for all I have learned and the needed laughs at times.
Anyway I now am needing advice, support. I have had my buisnees for 24 years in the same commercial location and it has done quit will for me . Will my problem is that my landlord has sold the whole block that my shop is on and they are going to tare it all down.I have always wanted to put my shop on my property and now that may be what I have to do. Thing is that I live 8 miles from town in the country [roads are all paved]. So I am know scared to death that my buissness would drop consederably to the point if I got a loan to build shop out here I wouldn't be able to make it. Geuss what I'm asking is
does anyone have shop out of town.If so do you stay busy I'm used to doing about 12 dogs a day and would need to do pretty close to that . My daughter thinks I'm freaking out for nothing ,that they will come but I still have my worrys.

no doubt you will lose a few, maybe more. Be prepared for a real slow down or offer pick up and delivery. One local kennel here offers pickup and delivery and gets 15.00 each trip..so if its worth it to them, they'll drive or else you have the option of picking up for them..good luck

You should. Could you put a small dog park on your property? It could be something they could do after they pick up and it could bring new buisness.

The shop I work at is about 5 miles out in the country, and we don't have any problems getting clients. In fact, about half my clients drive 30 miles or more to have their pets groomed by me. So I don't think relocating should be all that problematic. You may lose a client or two, but I think you'll be surprised that it's not all that many.

I'm in town but 3 other shops in my area are 10 miles out and they are always booked. 2 of them offer pickup and delivery though. Why don't you ask your customers what they think.

I am the 'new' shop on town, actually the ONLY shop in town. Everyone else is on the outskirts from 30 kms to 45 kms, but they are BOOKED solid because of their great reps. You'll do fine, plus NO OVERHEAD!!! How lovely is that!?

I had thought about offering a pick up and delivery and possiably setting up a doggie daycare and some boarding kennels in the future . I just need to suck it up and be brave and go for it.thanxs all.

                You'll do fine!

Eight miles is nothing- I've got clients who drive ALOT further than that to get to me. You've stayed in business for 24 years for a reason, so don't sell yourself short!
