  • anybody ever taken their dog to groomer?

i have a big hairy newfie and am too worn out after grooming everybody elses dog to want to do my own...there is a groomer close by who owns newfies and from the picture in her ad, they look really good. i have considered making an appointment with her, but my family makes fun of me...i have a yorkie also, he is EASY to groom, only 5lbs of dog instead of 100.....anybody else ever thought about it?

i probably wouldnt tell her i am a groomer, as i would be embarassed to admit i dont want to groom my own dog.....

I took mine once because I was getting an oil change, and it got hotter than I expected and the dealership took longer than the promised. I figured I would walk around during the oil change. Anyhow, they did a good job, but she is a boxer, and I made it abundantly clear I was a groomer.

That's really funny. I always told the person that I work with if I ever got a standard poodle I would have her groom it!lol
Hey what the heck, if she's good and has a good rep and your too tired go for it......Just remember those darn groomers sure do charge alot for newfies!

You know, I bet there are lots of groomers who wouldn't do their own very large dog! What if you had back problems? Your dog still needs to be groomed, right? If you are too embarrased, don't tell her about yourself. Just make the appointment. Or, tell her the truth and say you can't groom large dogs because it is too hard on your body. Just don't nit pick too much, you will have a keener eye than the average client!

I haven't ever done it, but if I had a giant dog, I would.

Don't forget to tip really well, lol.

Grooming my own dog is a real chore. I have a standard poodle and I keep him super short, hence less grooming! lol I'm embarrased to to say I do his body with a 7 and his legs with a 4. No poodle feet. I would never let anybody else groom him. If I had a big hairy, I'd probably keep the dog shaved short.

We must be married to the same man!!!!! I did teach HIM how to shave our one dog but he hasn't done it yet.

My husband keeps telling Spike that he looks like a Sheepdog (OES) because he's SO over-due for a haircut!!!!!

If he doesn't call him a sheepdog then he tells him he looks like a werewolf (sp). His head is so over grown, that poor dog, if he got lost, somebody would find him and think he was the most neglected beast in the neighborhood.

I might be tempted to pay someone to groom my own newfie but a boxer? Actually, I am a cheapskate so I would never pay someone to do something that I can do myself. I'm not saying I would be good about grooming it though. If I had a newfie it would probably always be a huge mess. I have a couple yorkies that I am very good about grooming frequently but I also have another larger short haired dog that gets about 4 baths a year, usually when she has a run in with a skunk.

If I had a Newfie I'd probably take it to a groomer, if I wasn't too cheap! lol Thats a lot of work there and I'm not sure if I'd want to do it or not.

I have a St. Poo that I keep rather short because I don't want to deal with doing her too often. My Pom doesn't get done as often as she should, heck not even my little Min Pin gets done as often as she should. If I have a day where I have a no show happen I might use that as a day to do my own dogs (one of the small ones that is).
