  • Rags to Riches Contest Half Way Point Status & Disqualifications

First, on occasion my assistants have let through 3 entries with bows and bandannas or costumes. Don't worry, they are gone. I always review eventually and even if we miss one somehow during judging they would be eliminated for sure. If you see one with bows, bandannas or costumes somehow, point it out. You can email [email protected] or send Admin a PM. Thanks.

Now if it is matter of suspect grooming technique well remember we have 3 champion judges that are discerning things but you are welcome to contact me as well.

Second, we are half way through the entry period, and we have another 25 entries to post soon, so please keep them coming in. Over $8,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the reminder Stephen. I made sure my entries this year don't have brushes, clutter, etc, bandanas. It does make a huge difference on how your photo looks that is for sure. I don't mean to sound ignorant, but what are suspect grooming practices?

Stephen: Well I have had someone say something that was done in one picture was impossible. And I don't quite see what they are saying for sure. So I just leave that open to the discernment of judges. This was a new concept to me as well.

There is a fair bit of hair colouring, hair switches or extensions,in the show ring,so It came to me that that may be a problem, like it is for the AKC judges.

Stephen: Yes that could be and each year we do this contest as things arise the rules will evolve more specifically. Certainly this is not "creative grooming" and I would advise everyone to avoid hair coloring, hair swithes or extensions in this contest even if the rules don't specifically state that. If that arises in this contest I would expect a rules amendment.

I know there were a few pics I looked at that I thought were pretty impossible. Like they took the before pic months before the after pic. There are some good shampoos out there that help with staining, but there is no way you can completely get rid of staining in one groom. It also seems like some of these dogs that are extremely matted, they may have been shaved down and then received a scissor cut a few months later or whenever the hair has grown out enough.
I know I've worked some miracles before, but IMO it's pretty easy to tell which pics aren't legit.

Although the contest page in general at Double K site doesn't state everything you cannot do in adorning the pet, it does when you refer to the Official Rules and on that the page I found Rule #4 below. Some ask if a simple band that keeps hair out of the eyes is OK and yes, we made that determination last year. It should not be adorned so to speak, a simple plain band with no decorations is likely to be fine, or a snap barrette as mentioned below. I would use a neutral color very plain band that draws no attention.

4.) No bows, hair colorant, dyes, pigments, decorations, jewelery, props, bandanas, or any other costume, decorative objects, glitter, accessories or enhancement is allowed on the entry dog. A hand, two hands or groomer in the background is allowed as long as they are not readily identifiable. You are permitted to use snap barrettes as long as the grooming results are clearly visible in the photo.
