  • Actual Phone Conversations I have had in the last 12 hours

Person on phone: Do ya'll sell muzzles?
Me: No Ma'am but you can get them at the local pet store.
Person: Well how much do ya'll get for washing a chow/shep cross
Me: $XX but if they are aggressive there is a handling charge of $XX (thought I would cover my bases because they were muzzle shopping!)
Person: Oh he isnt mean, I mean they do have to muzzle him at the vets when they poke him but he just growls Im sure he wouldnt bite you, so it would just be $XX right?
Me: Ma'am if we have to muzzle him there will be an extra charge
At this point the person goes off on me about everyone nickle and dimeing her to death and she just cant stand that!
I just politely tell her Im sorry and hang up.

    Next Call
Regular Customer: Can you groom Blah tomorrow? (This woman never prebooks and I say regular loosely)
Me: No Ma'am my next appointment is on Tuesday.
Customer: What? You cant squeeze him in?
Me: No Ma'am Im sorry Im totally booked for the rest of the week.
Customer: Well I guess I will have to take him to the other place, are you sure you cant get him in now?
Me: (well that last little bit just stroked my fur backwards) No Ma'am not untill Tuesday.
Customer: Well I'll just call you back.

    This one is my favorite!
Caller: Can ya'll bathe my 90 lb lab today?
Me: No Sir Im sorry we are booked. ( I really hated to turn this one down but I didnt have a large cage!) I dont have a cage to put him in today, I could do it tomorrow.
Caller: Well what if I just bring him by and wait on him that way he doesnt need a cage?
Me: Im sorry Sir, I already have 20 dogs ahead of him and my bathers are busy.
Caller: I really need to get him bathed before I go out of town, what if I bring him by at closing and you can just bath him up really quick like and not even dry him.
Me: Sure Sir, You can bring him by at 6 and I will personally bathe him and it will be $60.
Caller: What? $60 for a bath? Never mind I will do it myself.

Now I dont charge $60 to bathe labs but I did add it up right quick of my normal bath charge, my express fee and then a little extra because he wanted me to stay late so $60 sounded about right to me!

LOL silly people gotta love them!

I know it's not the same person, but I have a voice mail asking the price of a chow/shep cross. I just thought this was funny.

Your calls sound like some I've had over this week. Argh! I love the folks 'surprise' that your all booked up. Does this mean you don't sit around just waiting for them to call?

I also love the 'threat' "I'll just have to go somewhere else." Yep, I guess you will. Heck, I'm so nice I even give them places to try with a big smile on my face.

          Haha - thanks!!

Sounds like calls I have had, too. Yup, we'll just squeeze ya in cuz you think dog grooming takes just 10-20 minutes, right??

And a 90-lb. Lab - tell them you charge $1 per pound.

had my share of similar request's myself. Phone has been ringin' off the hook today and ALL wanted in today, tomorrow or saturday! I'm booked thru next week and all my saturdays are booked into April. Week after next is booked at about 70% and it's funny because when I tell people my next available, they say they'll call back in a few days (wth?), like there will miraculously be an opening for the next day in a few days, lol.

I had a first time client that was supposed to bring their dogs in today at 8am, they finally called me at nearly noon to let me know they weren't bringing their dogs HAHAHA, then wanted to know could they get them in early next week. UMMMM, sorry, no can do. They've had this appointment since early LAST week because they couldn't get in then, hehe. They said they'd call back next week <sigh>.

Some day I am going to quote a client the saying, "Your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency on my part."

There are a couple Pet-somethings nearby that would love to get your dog in today or tomorrow.

had a bright one today! wanted to get her shih in that was "in dire need" hadn't been to us in years (has been going elsewhere) told her we were booked until monday, she says well, I need a weekend I work all week. I said, so next weekend? She says you don't have anything this weekend? No, we are booked until Monday. she huffed and she puffed and she said she'd just go elsewhere. I'm supposed to be upset that a non customer w/ a matted nasty dog isn't booking an appointment?

I don't get mad often, I get a little annoyed, but today, I WAS TICKED!

First of all, we don't keep their leash/collar at our shop, we send them WITH the client.

The client shows up 25 minutes late, my co-worker takes the leash off and puts a lead on the dog and the client says, "Sigh...you have to give this to me?" (Umm, yeah). Didn't even give eye-contact to her, like she's nothing but a peon or something, and only looked at/talked to me! Then she said, as she was walking away, "I'll be back at 2:30."

Kelsey, my co-worker reiterated this to me, and I was IRATE. Nobody walks into my shop that late and TELLS US when she will be getting her dog. Mmm mmm :: shaking head no ::

So after a while I called her and told her that I was informed she was coming at 2:30 pm to get her dog---she says, "Yes, I was told it would be about 3 hours." I said, "Generally that is correct, but you were 25 minutes late so that threw our schedule off a bit. The dog will be done by 3, is that going to be alright?" (We'd finished the dog, I just wanted to let her know she couldn't tred on us like that). "Well, I'll just have to make it work," she said.

That is my passive-aggressive way of letting them know, "Don't come in to my shop late and tell ME when your dog will be done. No way, honey, it doesn't work that way. But she came and picked up and paid Kelsey a $5 tip. There ya go, girl! You got it now.

WHYYYYY!!!!! We get this ALLLLL the time. Yes you bring your dog in on a fairly regular basis, but we have like 15 dogs every day til NEXT WEEK!!!! And then they wanna wait and call back, and you know when they call back they're gonna want a next day appointment. Why not make an appointment in advance the first time you call? No. Must have next day. Nothing else will do. Grr. These also tend to be the ones who if you do somehow squeeze them in, they call like 2 hours later asking if Precious is done yet...NO!

And I get the no eye contact thing here and there as well. It doesn't help that I look really young, especially since I just got my braces off 2 weeks ago, but I can't count how many times I've had people call me "little girl." I'm 26...I appreciate that though! I hope they're still calling me little girl when I'm 36!!
