I loathe it when someone tries to hide info and during this pet food
recall many companies are hiding their sources from us. I've been
researching for days now trying to find out who these other
manufacturers are and might have found a lead.
Contaminated Wheat Gluten came from Xuzhou Anying Biologic Technology
Development Co. in Wangdien, China. ( we know that already)
http://www.xzay. com/english/ index.asp
Total quantity of wheat gluten shipped was 792 metric tons, imported
by ChemNutra, Inc., Las Vegas, Nevada, Sally Miller, President,
Stephen Miller, CEO http://www.chemnutr a.com
ChemNutra shipped from its Kansas City Warehouse to 3 petfood makers
and a single distributor who in turn supplies the pet food industry,
from November 9, 2006 and ended march 8, 2007, but they refuse to
tell wh o they distributed to. MenuFoods seems to be the only one
that the public is allowed to know about.

Three major companies mentioned in an article are Doane Pet Care,
Diamond, and Menu Foods. (Are these the three that ChemNutra sold to?
They aren't telling us.) Recently Doane Pet Care was bought out by
Mars, Inc. (MasterFoods USA).

Doane Pet Care Enterprises manufactures dry pet food under 350 store
brands including Maxximum nutrition, Special Kitty, Sportsman's
Choice, Kirkland Signature, Pathmark, Ol Roy, etc. They didn't list
all the brands unfortunately. www.secinfo. com/dsvRu. 6x2.htm
http://www.api4anim als.org/facts. php?p=359&more=1 (I appreciated the
company info on this site, but didn't agree with all that was said as
far as what is proper to feed cats, etc. So take this site with a
grain of salt)
We know some of the brands manufactured by MenuFoods.. they are on
the recall list. ;-)
Here is an interesting blog: http://petsitusa. com/blog/ ?p=236 lists
companies who verify they do not use MenuFoods, some who won't tell,
etc.. I just wonder who uses the other 2 and aren't telling. ;-)
Another *telling* site is http://howl911. com . News reports are
designed to keep the public informed and also to raise hype and sell
papers, so definitely use a discerning eye and logic as you read
reports.
Another thing I learned from a site... can't remember the site now...
is wheat gluten can be under the guise of several different names or
not even disclosed at all. Science diet prescription used wheat
gluten in one of their dry formulas for diabetic cats. What in the
world wheat gluten is in diabetic formula for is totally beyond
logic, let alone here it is included in a dry food... so it is being
added to dry foods.
Some additional news reports and gov.'t info, etc.:

usat_N.htm

Okay, after all my research I am tired and ready for a nap.
Hope everyone's furbabies are well and safe.
