  • This is unreal!

There is a girl on Craigslist rehoming her dog because "she has swollen anal gland that cost 30 to fix". Why the heck can't she afford to have it expressed when the dog's haircut alone would cost more you ask: "i already have a dog (so) i cant afford to take care of her."

    SOME PEOPLE SHOULDN'T OWN PETS!

Sorry that just really ticked me off. I e-mailed her and will take the dog (its free) if she lets me. Hopefully I'll be able to find her a good home. Here's the full ad:

I wonder how people like that have children. I hope she doesn't. Diapers cost a lot more than $30.
Bulldogs are adorable, with faces like toads that have been sat on.

I had a client one time that had to get rid of her cute little shih tzu cause she got pregnant and couldn't possible take care of the dog and the baby! She didn't work and at the time I was about 25, had a business, one child, one on the way and 4 dogs at home. I remember I just stared at her...couldn't think of a good response.

We don't know how she came by the dog to begin with... in fact, we don't know anything about her at all... not for me to judge. And sheesh- is she not doing the right thing by trying to rehome a dog she can't afford?

Leave it to ypu to look for good, you are rifgt, so is everyone else. Do'nt get the dog if you can not care for it, but in this economy things are changing fast for alot of people.

$30 might be a typo. Anal gland surgery is expensive.

I e-mailed her and very nicely asked if it was anal glands that needed regular external expelling or something surgical. I also asked if the $30 was a typo. I haven't heard back from her, but I hope that she finds a good home for her dog.

This is a tough one when you don't know all the details. She may have just fell onto hard times like so many other people and simply can't afford the dog anymore. Or else she saw that cute little puppy 2 years ago and made the irrational decision to take her home, not taking into consideration the dog would cost her years of expenses. Either way, I'll give her credit for trying to rehome the dog instead of ditching her outside city limits to fend for itself, like so many people do. I'm not saying I agree with her for getting rid of the dog over an anal gland needing to be expressed..... just saying there could be alot more to the situation.

I just wish people would stop trying to rehome animals over the internet and let people who know what they are doing take care of it. I made the mistake of putting a dog on petfinder one time and came very close to handing a dog over to what most likely would have been a horrific ending for the dog. It's actually a very interesting story and I should share it sometime - call it an eye opener to what "could" happen if you're not careful....but it's a long story. I WILL say the end result was I wound up keeping "Lily" and she spent the last 3 years of her life a very comfortable dog.

I'll agree with that. And while they're at it, let's do away with "Free to a good home" in newspaper ads. Those poor pets often end up as gator bait or used to train fighting dogs.

But another thing I wish is that people would stop being so hasty to judge others when they don't know the whole story. There's always a lot more that we don't hear than what we do.

                            foster dogs

I foster dogs. The foster group I belong to has a daily newsletter. My husband gets very upset at the sad stories of pet abandonment. I have to keep telling him that fostering exposes one to the BEST and the WORST of people. For example, Bruce, when fostered kept looking out the window. His former owners moved and after 8 years, Bruce didn't make the cut. The stories of ****** people go on and on. The stories of saviors do also. What a world.
Regarding Craigslist....wow... some weirdos there. I looked at the TAX chat just to see what tax questions were out there. Talk about the profanity!!! Don't people have better things to do than swear at strangers.....

Well said blue! I consider myself to be lucky to be able to afford my 4 dogs and their care, but if I couldn't I would do the right thing and try to find it a good home. Are we just upset that she can't afford the anal gland issue, is that really the only thing? I consider it thoughtful on her part to include that. How many people would give the dog away and not explain its problem just to get it out of their house? She is acknowledging a health problem and letting future adopters be aware of it. I thing the only issue is: Is she going to be selective in finding it a proper home? That is really the only problem. And that is the most challenging aspect of rehoming or even selling puppies. I know we all find it deplorable to think of giving away our fur kids, but if someone isn't totally devoted to their animals like we are, wouldn't it be in the best interest of the dog to find another home?
I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.
