When you sort your customers do you do it by dog's name or customer's name?? I am setting up my index cards and I am not sure which is better.

By owners last name. I have run into trouble if I forget to write the dogs last name down when taking appointments though. Then I have to go through the whole index box to find the dogs card.....

By owners name , once you get a clientele going you will find you have more gizmo's, max's etc than you will owners with the same last name.

I do it by customer name because (I feel bad about saying this) I remember my dog names over my client names! So in order to get better at it I sort all of my cards by client name.

Until the pets can write the check and make the appointment it goes under the human name :-)

Also, very seldom will you ever groom the same dog with two different owners but many times the owner will get 2 different pets.

I would say the customer's last name, just because a lot of people own more than one pet and I think it would be easier to have all the pets grouped together under the same name.

I would think it would be easier to sort by the customer's last name. There are a lot of common dog and people first names. Bella and Sophie come to mind for dogs! I think if you do it by first name, you'll spend forever looking for the right card.

Then I have the dogs' name, age, breed etc. Notes on behavior , address of client and notes on blades used etc. Of course directions to the home and all phone numbers. Date I first went to client, sometimes dates from then on as well.
