OT, but I've got to share!

I am so excited I just have to tell everyone. I bought a horse! Her name is Folie A Deux. She is a Hanoverian/TB mare. She is about 12 years old and is in foal right now. She is due mid April, and after the baby is weaned she is all mine! The people that own her now have had her for about a year, and they said that she was just a total mess when they got her. She was skinny, scared of everything, and had obviously been pushed too far too fast. They wanted to make sure that I'll take my time with her and give her plenty of love because she has made so much progress in the year they've had her. I'm so excited! I grew up riding and competing, and it's been about 8 years since I've done much with horses.

4 Sibes-Yes she is big, she is 17hands and built like a mac truck. I am 6'1 so I need a big horse. I would love to compete with her, but it depends on how she does. Right now when anyone rides her she gets very agitated when you ask her to do more than a trot. The people told me that when they went to look at her the girl who owned her before them was using a very harsh bit with some sort of metal nose band to force her head down while riding. So, she flips her head a lot while you're riding her too. She is going to take some work, but that's ok I'm up for the challenge. The good thing is that she is sweet to work with and has good ground manners, she isn't nasty or bad tempered.
My plans would be to start her out doing dressage. If that goes well we'll see how she does over some jumps. She has unlimited potential, she just needs someone that can take their time with her and won't push her or use harsh equipment on her.

I'd like to start her out doing dressage. She is a beautiful mover, great reach and drive.

I grew up doing hunter/jumper, dressage, and some 3 day eventing. I did a little of everything. I'd like to ride her and do a little competing with her for a few years. My plans are to breed her in a few years and then use the foal as my next competition horse.

I know next to nothing about horses, but I know pretty and she is very very pretty! Her coat is just so glossy and healthy! Looks like you could see your reflection in her hide.....lol

Congratulations to you and her! Sounds like she had a tough start to life and deserves the happy, loving home you are going to provide her.

Oh wait! I do know a little something about horses that I learned a few years ago at my sister-in-laws house (she has 4). Never never never go near a horse when you are wearing flip flops, especially if you are planning on wearing dress shoes to a funeral later that day.
