Well tonight I had a new client. A FABULOUS Peke named Buddy. He didn't have a ton of coat and not a well bred Peke, but I swear he was the amazing poable dog. Whatever position I put him in he stayed in until I moved him into another one! Well, anyhoo... I was supposed to groom him next week because mom wanted to be home but then she decided she just couldn't wait. The fur in his pads was driving him crazy according to her. So I went when it was just dad home. Sometimes I really like having just the dads there. They usually give very vague directions and I have more latitude to do what I think will look the best. Sometimes that can bite you in the butt too. So I asked my usual ton of questions and got very vague answers. What length? (showing different lengths with my fingers) and got the "short but not shaved" answer. Asked about trimming the tail, etc. The only thing I got from him was not shaved, but short, maybe about a 1/2 inch and to leave some mane. So I decided to do a #1 Peke clip. Haven't heard of it? Well, it'z cuz I made it up tonight LOL. I started at the ociput with a #1 SS snap on. Went down the back in almost the pattern of a springer, but went a lot further down into the flank and left the chest completely alone. I took a SS E comb over the mane area and then scissored in the ears and chest, scissored the undercarriage and the hid quarters so the basic shape he had was still there, just tightened up. trimmed the backs of his legs and feet, his tail. I then carded out his coat and ran a coat king over it to help smooth it out, though it came out pretty smooth. I card out every coat I clip anyway. He came out SOOOOO cute and I forgot my dang camera! I don't think anyone had done anything like this on him before. Dad liked it, or seemed to, but I'm waiting to hear from the mom to see if she really likes it. I sure hope so. It's boring just doing a #1 strip. I do this style a lot on Golden Retrievers and Poms who want it shorter but to still look like their breed, kind of LOL. So I'm waiting on pins and needles to hear from mom, I'll probably call her tomorrow to check. When she called to make the appointment she started with "so I hear you are the official neighborhood groomer..." cuz I do most of the dogs in the neighborhood. So hoping she's happy!

I just got off the phone with Buddy's mom and she was very happy. She said it's the best haircut he's ever had and no one has ever made him look like that. She told me usually when he came back his legs looked like skinny tooth picks LOL. So yay, I'm glad she liked it and she's booking every 4 weeks for me to groom him, another yay. What a caterpillar considers the end of his world, we call a butterfly.
